I have build a system for my dad. But it is acting strangely. When it boots it gives a bsod after loading windows immediately. Sometimes it doesn't even post.. I tries switching ram and it worked perfect for an hour or so so I decided to put back the orginal ram and that worked perfect too! But the next time I booted it, it was a bsod party all over again. Then I tried chkdsk C: /f and itworked for a while.. then it started all over again. Today it wouldn't even post so I swapped the gpu and it worked.. But again bsods all ovcer the place. Is this related to the hard drive (it's about ten years old and it rattles)? Or is it the motherboard?

Solution
yes if the cpu pins get broken you could have some issues so the cpu must be handed with care...but if you have fixed the cpu pins and its running then i think there is no need to fear....check the compatibility of the motherboard and the ram how much mhz does your mobo support and what is your rams mhz example: if the mobo supports 1333mhz of ram and u are using 1600 then there may be a problem ...

I don't have a diffrent hdd. Well I have one but that's broken (stupid WD Green series...). The GPU is an ASUS GT630.
The PSU is a Recom 430 Watt. the motherboard is an AsRock AM3+ board (quite old, it even has a floppy connector)..

Looks like it's the ram. This morning I tried to boot it to install the os on a diffrent hdd but it wouldn't post again.. So I swapped the ram with a stick from my own pc and it booted (from the old hdd) and worked just fine. I have read that crucial ram and amd cpu's sometimes have problems together.. Maybe it's the motherboard that's incompatible? By the way, the cpu is from a friend and when he gave it to me there were some pins bent so I tried to carefully bent them back. It worked bu maybe a not so important pin is broken that causes issues?
Here are some specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640
Motherboard: AsRock N68 GE3
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2X4) DDR3 1600 MHz

The motherboard supports 1600 MHz ram so that shouldn't be the problem..

EDIT: I just read that AMD cpu's and the ballistix sport series are less compatible. Also the Crucial ram and asrock are less compatible (at least that's what I've read. Weird thing is that my brother has an AsRock motherboard (970 Pro3 R2.0) and also an AMD CPU (FX 6300) and Crucial ram (although it is the Ballistix TACTICAL).. I am lost here. I appreciate you helping!!

EDIT 2: I swapped out the motherboard and the first time I got a bsod and the second time it booted into the os but shut down immediatly. The times after it wouldn't post again..

EDIT 3: After swapping the RAM it worked again. So it seems that the ram and the cpu don't work together..
