PC freezes after opening programs

Lately I've found that my PC will completely freeze up after starting up certain programs.

What exactly happens is this: programs starts up as usual and a few seconds later everything freezes up. The mouse pointer wont move around, any audio files playing get stuck on a loop, keyboard inputs do nothing, in general everything freezes up. The only "work around" I've found is forcing my PC off by holding the power button for a few seconds.

What boggles me is that before this started(which is a few days ago now) I had no issue running these programs whatsoever(those programs being BSplayer and Insurgency). I've tried re-installing them and getting the latest version but nothing changed.

I've looked for a solution via google but I can't find anyone with similar enough issues.

For the record, my PC(is actually a laptop) is a Toshiba Satellite P855-T.

Any attempt to help will be greatly appreciated, if you need any more info on my hardware/software don't hesitate to ask.

Is it only those two programs? Have you performed a full virus and malware scan? Are you able to use system restore?

I've scanned with Malwarebytes and HitmanPro. Only a Jotzey and a few "minor threats" were found. After removing them, nothing changed.

I haven't tested all my installed software, but so far only those two seem to trigger the freezing.

Yes I am able to system restore, but I don't really want to resort to it unless I absolutely have to.
