How to connect a router to a switch using Powerline adapters?

My router is located next to my entertainment center and in another room I have a couple of computers and a NAS connected to a gigabit switch. When I temporarily connect the router LAN output with a CAT5 cable to the switch everything works fine. Then I replaced the cable with a pair of Netgear AV500 powerline adapters and the computers did not see the network at all. However, the adapters work really well when I connect a single computer to the receiving unit (no switch). BTW, Netgear customer service couldn't help much; after a long chat their main suggestions were rebooting, blame the switch and purchase a different model.
I can't run the system with the cable on the floor for long and rewiring the house is complex. Some people claim that my original idea works as intended with D-Link adapters. Any ideas?

Did you fill the ports on the Router?

ok... what should work... Router (port other than 1) to switch (port 1) from Switch to Powerline adapter - powerline adapter to computer. (for multiple pc's on this end, another switch (Port 1) then other ports to PC's.

Thanks Corroded. I did what you suggested (Router => Switch1 => Powerline <==> Powerline => Switch2-P1 => computer) and it did work, but very, very slooow. I reconnected the computer directly to the powerline adapter (to make sure I had a good pairing) and the connection speed went to the ISP maximum.
So, my conclusion is that this will not work for me. My options are to purchase a Powerline adapter with built-in switch (Netgear's solution) or start making holes in walls. Thanks again!
