Hello, so i got a r9 280x, and i have a Seasonic ECO 600W.
In the beginning when i was installing the GPU, i found that the PSU had less cables than needed, but i managed to fix this, now the fans of the GPU are on, everything is good, and boom, i started playing BF4, after 30 minutes of playing on Ultra, the GPU cuts out the signal, but the PC is still working, and it didn't pass the 70C by the way.

So, if i wait a week till i get a new PSU, and play BF4 again with the ECO, and this happens again, would that hurt the GPU or any component ? Thanks !

Hmmm... yeah. I didn't know Seasonic put their name on an economy PSU. Does the card still work for normal use?

Yes, it is good even with games like War Thunder on Ultra, Medal of Honor Warfighter.... it only does this in BF4, till now.

How did you hook up to the 8Pin PCI-E power slot on the GPU? Thought the SeaSonic Eco only has 2 6Pin PCI-E connectors?

No. It's fine. The PSU undoubtedly could not maintain the +12V under load and the card shut down. I can't see any scenario where the card could have been damaged by a voltage drop.

The eco series was built primarily for Indian/asian markets, and is basically a s12 II, that's set for 230v and has no paintjob.

I'm still trying to figure out how it did not have enough cables and required 'fixing' ...

Hey Tradesman1, i got this cable from a friend, and everything with fine, just now, i found that a part of it was burnt... Now i cant start the PC if i dont have another cable like this, or do you advice me to buy another PSU instead ?

No way a pc with a 280x is going to pull all 46 amps that psu is rated at, even with 12v/5v crossloading, unless the psu is truely defective.

Karadjgne, the PSU was working fine with a GTX 650...

Most 280s require a 8 Pin PCI-E and a 6 Pin, the ECO if I remember right only comes with 2 6 Pin - which is why I asked - if it was hooked up via Molex and an adapter, it may have starved out for power

Which question, Tradesman1's question ? I used the cable in the picture, it is like an adapter, it did the job, but now it is burnt and i will have to buy another PSU tomorrow, and if you mean the 46 amps question, i'm a big noob with PSU's, so i really can't understand.. Anyway i will choose your answer as best answer (that it wont be damaged)

From the YouTube unboxing video I watched, the ss600bt (eco 600w) came with a 6 and 6+2 branch, not seperate leads like my m12. I have actually not been able to find any documentation anywhere that actually list the PCIe connectors, the sites skip that only listing the 6 sata and 4 Molex + 20+4.

Karadjgne, do you want me to photograph it for you ? Any cables ?

The connectors should be labled, so yes, a picture would help. Include the cables labled PCIe, CPU, and the burnt one

Those are molex to molex, they make molex to PCI-E but I have no faith in them seen GPUs and PSU ending up getting fried from using them - want a PSU with the proper PCI-E connectors to the GPU

Here is the picture of the PCI-E connectors, and i didn't use them at all, i used the connectors that came with the GPU, and the burnt one's picture also, the burnt is external adapter.

Above you said you got cables from a friend, now you say they came with the GPU, so have no idea, the picture of the PCI connectors appear to be a pair of 6 Pin which is what I was thinking - those molesx adapters I have no idea about, but have fried a lot of things trying to attach them to a 280X - What brand/model 280X ?

That's the problem. You most definitely should use the correct pci-e connectors directly from the psu. That means the single 6-pin and the other 6-pin and the 2-pin extra in the 6 and 8 pin slots in the gpu. Care must be taken to match the slots up exactly, they will only slide in 1 way but may be stiff

That's the type of adapter needed

you may want to actually hook up the psu and see if it works first. no need to keep using adapters for connectors you already have. you need the 2x 6-pin pcie connectors on that one long cable and the little 2-pin hanging off the first connector. The one with just 2 black wires.

Thanks Tradesman1, and Karadjgne, but i prefer buying this adapter instead of taking the risk of playing with the cables, i'm a noob and i may connect something to the wrong place... And those adapters are only 6 USD.. Isn't it worth it ?

ugg, missed that. stupid phone takes forever to refresh sometimes lol. yeah, Tradesman1 is correct (duh, why am I not surprised hah!), you will need that adapter to change the single 6-pin to an 8-pin, then hook the pcie directly to the gpu, no more molex!

Dude you are great, thank you, i didn't buy the adapter, i just did this, and this was really the best answer for everyone, there is a 2 pin cable next to every 6 pin cable, we can put them together and it will work, without any exterior cables, THANKS !

huh, and here I was sure it was a 6pin and 6+2pin, guess now we know, 2x 6+2pin for an eco
