Hi,

So I need a good desktop mic that's under a $100 for YouTube. I've looked at the Blue Snowball as well as the Atr2500. I want some different opinions. This is all going to be for my youtube channel which I'm hoping to reboot!

If I do get a desktop mic I'll also have to get a pair of headphones which would be more money so if a good headset does exist please let me know.

Thanks!

you might want to have a look at the headphone guide (click headphones in my signature) and have a look at the very bottom at the microphone reviews. its not done yet but i have a few in there listed which are worth checking out as well s some pro/cons.

also read the "what do i need to know about microphones" section.

what sort of mic quality do you want? desktop mics by far have much better vocal clarity than headset microphones. with that said however there are certainly some half decent mics in headsets which are good for average users. recording however benefits from using better than average equipment.

if you bought a pair of headphones you could use the antlion modmic which is only $50. for the price it has excellent quality...

as for desk mics i would jump to the atr2500/yeti level as the snowball has a few issues with it (although its really not a bad mic... it just has low volume problems).

for headphones... its quite possible to get something "okay" for about $70-80 but your better headphones run about $130-180.

a good pairup such as the ad700x and modmic would be $190 total ($140+50)
the fairly decent hd558 and modmic would be $170 ($120+50)

a deskmic pairup such as the ad700x and atr2500 would run about $210 ($140+70)
or if using a hd558 $190 ($120+70)

the snowball ice (basic version) would save you $25 but the 2500 is the better mic of the two.

everything depends on what kind of quality you want out of a headphone set or microphone.

you could of course use a headset for recording... but typically headset microphones are only so good. many like the v2 or 780 are said to have decent microphones... perhaps look at youtube recordings of the voices using them to get an idea about quality though. its not going to be at the same level (despite what some users claim... i've seen someone say a turtle beach headset had blue yeti mic quality... which is bogus) but might be good enough for your needs.
