my system right now has basic crap ram from hyundai 1 x 4gb / 1 x 2gb.. how much of a difference does ram with higher voltage 1.65 + and cas latency 10+ make compared to something that's like 1.5-1.6v and 5-9 latency? I notice right now most of the time the system doesn't go past 60% memory usage so I'm thinking faster would be more important really than having 8gb over 6gb. How do you know what stick the computer draws from first? If I were to just buy a really good 4gb stick and use w/ the current 4gb does the cpu use the better one first or maybe tied to a certain slot on the mb? Not sure if this is a waste of money to buy faster ram and go from 6gb to 8gb. I will probably be building a new system within a year as well and this one maxes out using ddr3 1600. I really don't want to do it if it's not going to be a noticeable significant difference. I mainly use the computer for running newer games and soon it will be loaded with a lot of music production software. I was thinking the best thing is it to just buy a cheap 4gb stick once the system starts using 70+% of what I have now?

Solution
It will mean - less problems eg pc shutting down. It will mean better speed ram - the memory controller will be happier. It will mean better game fpps - you will have more ram to use.
For a start, you should have mixed sticks of ram in a pc. It causes problems.

The lower the voltage and lower the CAS and faster the rated speed the better the ram. These days you should be using 2 x 4gb 1866 cl9 1.5v ram - IF IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

but how much of a difference will i see in performance? If i'm using cheap hyundai memory that came in the dell tower compared to what I would spend for 2 x 4gb would it be a noticeable difference being that I don't use all 6 so it would primarily be based on the ram just being faster and better.
