Best GPUs for a Triple 4k Monitor Set-up

Howdy folks! I am attempting to build a very powerful machine that will be dedicated to driving, racing and car games in general. I've researched a lot of different parts and (stupidly) decided to not set a budget. This is will be my third PC that I built from scratch. I'm pretty excited because in some aspects (graphics) it will be the most powerful PC I've built. However I'd like to ask you all (internet experts) which GPU I should go for and aftermarket cooler for said GPU. I know that if I go with a R9 290x I will have to set-up Crossfire and if I go 780TI I'll have to set-up SLI, But the question I have is if I go with one of those two cards how many should I get? And what cards are higher performance than those two cards?

You'll need big $ of graphics cards

And that's just to run one monitor. You'll need 3 x that for 3 x 4K monitors.

At least 3 cards. If any drivers will suppourt 12K, Then the r9 290x(s) would perform better than the gtx 780 ti(s). But in this situation i would recommend getting 3-4 GTX titan black's, as their 6gb frame buffer will help compared to the 4gb (290x) and 3gb (780 ti).

I've decided at this point that I'm going to go for either a Titan Black or R9 295x2. However, would it not be better to get the AMD card because of the higher RAM?

The r9 295X2 is a very powerful Dual GPU card, it is 2x r9 290x put on one board. But because it is running in crossfire it only has 4gb of effective ram. Quad crossfire has also got terrible scaling issues. to the point where an r9295x2 +290x in tri-fire beats 2 295x2's in some games. At this resolution I think multiple titan black's would out perform multiple 295x2's. But if it is a single 295x2 or a single titan black the 295x2 will perform significantly better. Neither will get a playable FPS at a 12k resolution though. I would also recommend getting an Intel processor over an AMD because of AMD's bad single/few core performance (IE in most games).

Honestly, I don't think you're going to be quite satisfied for the results you get for the price. 12K resolution is absolutely insane at 2014 tech levels - you'll be fighting a constant battle to make games live up to where you want them to be for what you're paying.

If you do go ahead, have an electrician out to your house, too. The typical standard circuit breaker in the living spaces will be pushed to the limit here with a rig like this.

^ completely agree. What I would do is instead of 3x 4k monitors get 3x 1440p monitors and a single 295x2.

just stay to a max of QHD (2560X1440), UHD (4k) is so new, majority of things are just scaled from 1080p, your really better off going for three 1080p screens, and save yourself the money.

But make sure to get the one with highest memory clock speeds. Or if like me and can wait till the 390. Cuz the mem stacking is supposed to be amazing.
