My colleague hooked me up with a 4790k chip for good price so I decided to put together a build for my brother in law with it, and retire his PC to email/surfing/general use in our living room.

I'm not really familar with the haswell refresh line up so if there's anything I could change or should know about please inform me. ATM all I keep hearing is sata express yet the SSD market still looks the same, atleast from my eyes.

I also need help with MOBO picking, with my 2 x79 machines I stayed with Asus as they seem to know what to do, and alot of features included but I think I don't even use them all.

ATM I have this build for him, what would I miss if I went down to the ASUS z97 pro, or jump to another brand. He'll be using a 2560 × 1440 display probably 4k within 2months or so. Don't really need ultra settings on games. Does this build look ok? Maybe I can trim some money somewhere? He needs windows 8 pro tho. thx

You don't mention need/willingness to overclock nor intended use, so difficulto to comment.
Asus is a solid MB, stick with it. But I would go Z97 Pro if only limited oveclock is enough or move up to their extreme MB if planning to seriously OC.

Regarding the SSD, you could save some $ by going with a 256GB main disk which is plenty for OS and main applications, but add a regular WD 2GB HDD, or you will soon have the only drive full.

No BluRay/DVD?

Ciao

You could build something a lot cheaper ~$1500 that will play everything on ultra on a 1080p screen.
