your gona either have to get a new mobo, or get an amd FX 8350.

I highly suggest getting a new mobo and getting the 4790K as the 8350 is old, dead socket, and slower than the 4790K.

What's a good suggestion on a motherboard?

Price/Performance: Gigabyte z97x-SLI.
Raw performance: Asus Maximus VI extreme or similars.

Anywhere from $80-200. I was looking at the Asus z9. It will be a gaming pc. My friend said my i7 4790k wouldn't fit on the mobo, though.

Agree with him, The best board for that would be an Asus Maximus Board.

If you can go up to $200, the Asus Maximus VII Hero is the best choice. The Maximus VI is cheaper too, but you will have to do a bios update, which is easy with ROG board, you just plug in a USB flash drive with the bios on it, in the designated usb port.
But if you want to get something cheaper, I would suggest an Asrock z97 Extreme4 or MSI z97 Gaming 5.

I agree with Ytyoussef, Asrock z97 Extreme 4 or Asus Maximus VII Hero, Both Boards have excellent reviews, but obviously the Asus is much better
