So a while back I dropped my external harddrive. The USB connection broke so I took it out of the case and put it in my PC normally. The first two or three times I started my computer no problem.

However, for the past week Windows takes forever to start. I had to restart the computer at least 3 times and after the "starting windows" screen finished it told me it needed to check my drive (the external one I put inside). I let it check once but it froze so I kept skipping after that.

Today I couldn't start my computer at all after 10 tries. I just gave up and unplugged the drive and it started fine.

My question is WHY is this happening? Is it because I dropped the external harddrive? I had no problem opening it and accessing the files when it connected inside my computer. What can I do? Should I just buy a new one and transfer the files? (Assuming I can get the computer to start if I plug it in again..).

Solution
I would definitely buy a new drive and transfer the files if you can. Even if it hasn't completely died yet, it might croak soon after a drop. You'd better rush in and save your data!

2 Drives in one computer will cause slow down.. if you do have a network computer.. try to change your dynamic IP to Static.. example.. 192.168.0.88 Hope it works, :D

But you know what..
The Secret here is . PATIENCE.. :D

How does having two drives in one computer cause slow down? It doesn't. If that was the case then these servers with dozens of drives would be slow as molasses! And the network has absolutly no affect or effect on what his issue is either.

Pretty sure its because its a failing/bad drive that when the PC starts up its taking forever to detect what drive is even connected. happens all the time with failed/failing hard drives. Doesn't matter if its internal or external. If its plugged in on startup the BIOS will have a hard drive reading it.

Sorry buddy but having the Mangekyou Sharingan of Kakashi doesn't really help you with technology XD
