Hello!

I have purchased a new computer recently with the following specs:

Intel Core i5 4570 3,2 Ghz
Asus B85M-G mobo
Sapphire R9-280X Tri-X OC 3GB
8 GB DDR3 RAM
1 SSD, 1 HDD
CM Hyper 103 CPU cooling fan
Corsair Carbide 300R case
2 120mm fans and 1 140mm fan in the case
FSP Hexa 500 PSU

My problem is that when I play games and the GPU is under full load (indicated by the lights on the back of the gpu) I hear a buzzing sound coming from the PSU. I use headphones so I dont hear it normally, but when I take them off it can be heard. The other thing is when under not heavy load (browsing/movie or video watching) the fan gets this noise like it had a bearing problem, but when it gets under heavy load and the fan spins up then this noise disappears.

My question is shall I replace the PSU, can it damage my PC on the long run, or is this something I should not worry about?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

What the hell are you thinking? You got top notch components then you ran out money and just dumbster-dived for the cheapest PSU you could find?

Get rid of it fast before it ruins any of your other components! and a 500W PSU is being just strangled when under full load. Even my 650W is having trouble powering it all with similarly power hawging components!

It wasn't the cheapest I could find and as far as I know FSP is a good and reliable brand.

FSP is generally a decent manufacturer. the buzzing is probably a bad capacitor. does it get louder under load?

No, its the same during the whole "load-time".

I took a look at the PSU box and I discovered a little label in the bottom left corner which read "Max, Power 550w". I'm sure it cannot put out 550 watts but can this mean that its capable to more than its meant to. Anyone know anything about this?

Replace it before this happens , FSP does make some decent supplies , that's not one of them.

It belongs in a budget or office type build , not running nice components.

Wow, that was scary.... I had one last question: What is your opinion about the Raider and Aurum series by FSP? Or maybe a Corsair would be better?

Aurum Gold and Aurum Xilencers are good, but the normal Aurums are comparable to the CX line of Corsair power supplies but it would just be just a matter of comparing prices between the two.

FSP Gold Series Arums are much better.
