I have recently update to windows 8, due to errors i lost my partitions and lost most of my passwords to all my sites. I had all my passwords saved on passcards, I used roboform and never needed to remember them. I have used hiren's boot to recover them and did find them but everytime I go to open them it says "wrong file format", and I put them in the same folder as the other passcards. Im lost 100%!

I dont know if my recovery program didnt recover all parts of the file... or is there another way to fix this issue. Im in need of some desperate help because I have many sites I cant get into and a little relieved that this is only password I remember... probaly because all the rest of my sites I used a roboform autogenerated passwords + some prifix...there aint no cracking it.

ANY HELP IS GREATFAL!!!

Parts of the file have likely been overwritten. Recovery software has no way to determine this, hence why it doesn't work. You're SOL bud, just reset your passwords and be more careful in the future. Since you have Windows 8 now you can save all of your passwords to SkyDrive

Most sites have a "forgotten password" link when you try to log in, try those.

There is no way to recover them, the data is gone. Go to the websites, reset your passwords, and be more careful in the future

I don't know what to tell you bud. I've advised against using password managers precisely for this reason.

if your passwords were saved in a file.... on your hard drive then you could try the minitool recovery software. it is free up to 1gb and allows you to view file systems and files you want to pull.

you will need to access it by plugging your had drive into another pc or by using another hard drive as your boot drive. the software cannot be run one the same drive running windows at that time.

when all other file recovery failed (including all of the commonly suggested programs) that was the one which worked for me.

--

if that does not work... then you are pretty much screwed.

oh, you can also use "forgot my password" on email sites as well. typically you would have set a recovery question to aid you in case you forgot it.

i also advise against password managers for this reason and others.
