Hi, I have a very basic 'gaming' PC and am looking to upgrade a couple of things so that I have better frame rates when playing games.

Current Specifications:

Processor: AMD X4 Anthlon II 750K Quad Core Processor 3.40Ghz (4.00Ghz turbo)

RAM: 8GB

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R7 240 (2GB)

Hard Drive: 1TB SATA3 6Gbps

Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A58M-HD

Power Supply: 500W

I don't know much about PC's, but I'm looking to upgrade the CPU and graphics card. My budget is £300, but even less would be better. I don't want nor expect amazing graphics, but I'd like smooth gameplay and reasonable graphics (mid settings). Is this possible? What CPU and graphics card would you recommend? Can my motherboard accept these?

Are these alright? http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amd-fx-6300-black-editi...

Thanks.

Your motherboard cannot accept that CPU, but that CPU you have now will work fine with the 270x you want to get. no problem.

Keep your CPU.

What is your PSU? This is VERY important.

Your motherboard is an fm2+ socket the fx-6300 is an am3+ socket

That MSi board has overheating problems, somber. Plus he will have to reinstall windows when changing the board and possibly buy it again depending on the version. His CPU is plenty powerful enough to use a 270x. No reason to upgrade and the 6300 is not even enough to notice a difference.

A new PSU is probably the best choice to go with his new GPU.

what is the northbridge temp? That is the question. CPU temp makes no difference.

But, a CPU upgrade is a waste for OP anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

So my current CPU is alright for my needs? For example, I'm getting around 50FPS on Sniper Elite 3 on low settings. But DayZ, I'm on low settings (and boy do they look low!) and I still lag in the cities and some buildings.

So will upgrading my graphics allow me to play on slightly higher settings and still getting a reasonable and playable frame rate?

Cheers

Dayz is poorly optimized. heavily CPU based. and tiny voices that is my north bridge temp. i just added that my cpu was OC. on sniper elite 3 i can run ultra settings at 60 fps on my cpu mobo commbo

I have an overclocked i5 3570k and I still lag in DayZ. It is terribly coded and will never get better. Sorry.

Your CPU is fine. Sniper elite, again, is terribly coded and there isn't much to be done about it.

Yes, changing your GPU will let you play at high or max settings in most games. But not DayZ as it is coding limited.

DO NOT upgrade the CPU/motherboard. No need at all. you won't even see a gain in performance.

Yeah, you also have a GPU that is 5x as powerful as OPs. Thats the difference. Not CPU. Sorry.

the 270x is a decent jump up form your GPU, so OP should be maxing alot of games easily.

Cheers tiny, I'll just upgrade my graphics card then.

As stated in my post, I'm not good with computers so please forgive me :D

Can I use any GPU brand with my motherboard? ALSO, considering my specifications and budget, what graphics card would you recommend I buy?

Yes ANY GPU brand is perfectly fine.

Get an r9 270x or a gtx760. Both are just as powerful as one another.

What PSU do you have? This is IMPORTANT.

YEah that HAS to be replaced to use the new GPU.

Get a 500-600w unit from Antec, XFX, Seasonic.

Not a problem! Always glad to help!

I recommend an XFX 550w unit. AMAZING quality for the money.
