I am 14 years old and i recently built my first gaming computer. I unstalled windows 8.1 on it and it works great I just wanted to manage my cables better and I was wondering if i could reopen everything and disconnect the wires and route them better. Could i do this on carpet since my motherboard is already installed. I wont be moving the parts just the wires mostly. Afterwards would everything boot up the same since my OS is already on my hard drive. thank you

Solution

Standoff's are metal and form a ground with the system. They are attached to the metal case, which is metal and will ground out with the carpet.

Go ahead, do it on the carpet then. An old box or piece of cardboard would work as I said, but your choice.
Don't do it on carpet. Even putting down cardboard is better than working on bare carpet.

You can, but be careful. There is a dozen posts a day about people with perfecting fine working PC's who decided to mess with it and now their $1500 PC won't boot any more.

AFter you do move around the wires, triple check that the RAM and GPU are seating correctly as they are two things that get knocked around the most and seem like they are connected but are actually slightly loose and pins touch where they shouldn't touch.
