Ok, so I recently upgraded to an Intel cpu and a gigabyte motherboard, and I'm having some problems, first I will list my components.

CPU: Intel Core I5-4690k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5
GPU: EVGA GTX660 FTW Edition
Memory: Adata XPG V2 1600 2x4gb
Storage: Samsung 840 pro series 128g SSD/ WD Black series 1tb 7200rpm 3.5in.
PSU: Seasonic X-series 750w 80+gold
Case: Corsair air 540
Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S in push/pull
Display: Sony Bravia 30in LCD TV 720p (going to upgrade asap lol)

The problem:
Well, since I started this new build up, I've had an intermittent sound issue. I will either be watching a video, or attempting to play a game, and the sound will become massively distorted/staticy. This is accompanied by a graphical slowdown. I have tried numerous things to solve this issue.

I have tested the graphics card in another computer and determined that it is running fine.
I have undone any and all overclock settings, although with this new motherboard I am unable to get it down to 3.5ghz, it is "stuck" turbo'd to 3.9
I have replaced my HDMI cable (through which all my sound is being transmitted to my display and through that, to my surround sound.)
I have disabled intel graphics setting in the bios.
I have tried disabling the motherboard onboard sound through the bios. This appeared to work at first, but then the problem returned and I reenabled it.

My Memory is currently running at 1333mhz. The problem seems to happen more often when running at it's correct 1600mhz. With any overclock this also happens. Right now I basically have everything set to automatic in the bios. Which causes the memory to be set at 1333.

So what could be causing this issue? The only thing I am able to come up with is that my motherboard has an fault in it somewhere. Either that or my ram is causing the issue when "overclocked" to it's correct speed of 1600. This build is only 3 days now. I have asked in other forums and only told to update my drivers. I have updated ALL my drivers with the exception of flashing the bios to the most recent version. Which seems to be the only way to update it and I don't know how to do that, and whether or not it will affect my windows install or not. The only overclocking I have attempted has been through the automatic settings in the bios, and the Easy OC tuner in the app center that came with the motherboard.

I would be greatly appreciative of any help you guys can give me in determining what exactly is causing this problem.

Updating BIOS should not affect your Windows. Clear CMOS on your motherboard. Don't apply any overlocks at all.
Test for stability without the GTX 660 and with.
Run Memtest to test your ram.

Should I do those things as well as update the bios?

Check what version you have first.

I had the old f2 bios, update to the f4. Managed to bring the cpu down to 3.5ghz. Figured out that the auto setting I was fiddling with (which lists percentages) was in fact auto setting the entire system. thus far the problem has not occured with my memory set to 1600, and the cpu at 3.5Ghz. Am going to set to factory resets, set the memory to 1600 and the cpu to 4.0 and run prime 95. I have looked through the compatible memory list and found that my memory is indeed compatible as well. This memory was used in my old system and ran just fine in that.
