Just built my new gaming pc, its detecting everything perfectly, except my old Sata II 3gbs HDD with pre-install Windows Vista 32bit (need to wait till I can get 64bit in a few weeks, strapped for cash atm).

As I was strapped for cash, in order to afford half decent parts I wanted push my budget as much as possible by saving myself around 30-50 on the HDD and like 60-70 on not needing to buy another windows copy.

Everythings working fine, the HDD works in the old PC as well, however in this new rig it makes quite clicking noises and isn't detected by BIOS.

So what drive has your OS on it?

Does it POST?

The only one I have, the one that is not being detected by the bios, not booting, and is making the clicking noise despite working in another pc, it has Vista 32bit installed (all I have for the mean time).

Have tried a different sata cable? different port? Also it's very likely even of it is detected it's not going to boot on the new hardware, especially if the hardware is completely different from the old system. Another problem is liscensing, pre installed means it's OEm and locked to the old motherboard.

Yes, I've tried both cables (which are brand new) which came with the Mobo, as well as the old cables used in my older pc that are confirmed working, I have also tried both SATA ports, still nothing.

Its possible that windows is OEM and won't boot, but it should still detect the Hard Drive in the Bios no?, also no idea why the clicking noise.

Unfortunately that only leaves a bad SATA controller you need to get the motherboard replaced.

Check the old HDD in the old PC - Diskcheck, Anti virus, Seatools.
