Which graphics card should I buy? GTX 780 or R9 290?

Which graphics card would be better for my build? I'm building this computer primarily for gaming.

Specs:
Case: Corsair Obsidian 450D Mid Tower
CPU: Intel i7 4790K @ 4.0Ghz (Plan to OC eventually.)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero LGA 1150
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB
SSD: Samsung EVO 120GB
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB
Graphics Card: ?
Power Supply: Corsair 750W ATX12V
Monitor: Asus VE278H 27"

I have already purchased everything except for my graphics card and I am not sure which to choose!

If I go with the GTX 780, I will buy the EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked with ACX cooling 3GB card. If I go with the R9 290, I will buy the Sapphire Tri-X 3GB card.

GTX 780! :D It will run quieter, faster and more efficiently although it will cost a bit more. I bought an MSI 290 Twin Frozr myself and was so unhappy with it I sold it used, and wished I had bought a 780. With a 780 you will have the option of getting a Gsync monitor, too. The drivers are also more reliable and are updated more frequently with actual improvements rather than bug fixes. The EVGA card is a great choice. :)

Statistically, they are even in terms of gaming prowess. The GTX 780 is a better choice in my opinion. It runs better and smoother in gameplay and you can SLI it later because your PSU can support it. Your PSU will not be sufficient to power two R9 290s.

Yep, the 780 over the 290, and might check the Asus CU model, I've got a pair of them and they OC great, even in SLI (in sig), with the EVGA that' generally your clock as they bin the GPUs and offer a variety of clocks, with not much allowance for OC headroom

That card looks nice! The only problem is I don't know much about overclocking GPUs. :(

That's okay! You can learn more about OCing after you have the card. I would also recommend the Asus card if it matches the colour of your build or you don't mind, as it runs slightly cooler and quieter. It's also slightly cheaper where I live but I'm not sure about the prices where you are. :)
