So my computer is only a year old. For the past few days it would turn off randomly while I was gaming. The thing is, it would only shut down for a few seconds, then turn back on (but I would actually get a signal to my monitor, so it would be on, but I could not do anything with it, not even shut it down; I had to cut the power from it to turn it off). When it turned back on, both my CPU heatsink and rear case fan wouldn't turn on, so it would then overheat. I'm thinking it may be a power supply issue, but I'm really not sure. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Specs:
Intel I5 3470
MSI B75MA P45
Radeon 7870
8 GB ram
1 TB HDD
500 Watt Corsair Cx500

Thanks.

To me it sounds like a defective MB.

Well, when I tried to plug the 24 pin motherboard power cable in, it wouldn't go in all the way. It's slightly loose, but not very. Could that possibly be the problem?

Very possible. I have recently helped a poster with his problem that turned out to be a 24 pin connector that didn't go in far enough to clip over the latching nub. Eventually the electrical contact was lost and his system would shut down. That may be an issue with yours as well. Try to get the latch to slip over the nub. Put your fingers under the board if necessary to keep from cracking a solder trace with excessive pressure when pushing it in.

Okay, I tried as much as I could, but it would just not click in. It seems to be doing better, so I think that was definitely the issue. I guess I'll just have to check it every few months to make sure it's not too loose. Thanks for the help!

Sometimes filing a bit off the 24 pin cable's clip will fix that.
