so im looking to upgrade some parts on my build at the moment to try maximize the gaming performance i have. my current set=up is;

-FX8320 8 core @ 4.17ghz
-16gb Patriot Viper 1600mhz
-Gigabyte GA-78lmt-usb3
-R9 290 Sapphire Tri-X OC
-512gb Crucial mx100 ssd
-XFX Pro Core Edition 850watt 80+

im not sure what to upgrade myself as i thought i had a good system until i spoke to a friend who has the same build apart from he has a intel i5-4670k and he gets on average around 8-10fps better in most games!
is it worth me changing over to intel, as i want something that will last at least 2 years and i cant see this 8-core processor lasting, plus am3+ is dead near enough so im limited massively to upgrades in the future!
any help would be great. also would have around £250-£275 to spend.

cheers in advance

no point in changing the ssd as that wont get me any better performace, plus to be fair ive only just got that ssd i got a really good deal on it.
i just think intel would be a massive performance boost for me. as ive alwasy been with amd i know very little about intel, but as i said before. some friends have intel systems and they perform as well as mine and they are older systems

If you want to upgrade to Intel now would be the time, while you can still recover some of your expense on your AMD parts. If you wait 6 months you probably wont be able to give them away. Its up to you.

i know my amd parts will not be worth much now anyhow, i may even keep them as spares just incase anything ever goes wrong in the future.
can anyone please give me some parts i should be looking at...i have no idea...

no i wont be doing any video editing ect, just heavy gaming. is it worth looking at the 4670k? or is the 4690k much better? and do you have any recommendations for the motherboard as i had a search and theres lots of the z97 motherboards. id like one to have an option of crossfire/sli in the future

The 4690K is marginally better and only $5 more than the 4670K on Newegg It has .1 Ghz edge over the older chip in both base and boost clock, and that's it.

For a Z97 mobo with two PCIe x16 I would look at the ASUS ROG series or the EVGA classified. both are going to run nearly $400. For a cheaper solution Gigabyte and MSI both have Gaming series Motherboards.

ok so ile look at the 4690k, but yet again im stuck with motherboards. ive seen this one....seems good....it runs crossfire too....http://www.ebuyer.com/643686-asrock-z97-pro4-socket-1150-vga-dvi-hdmi-7-1-channel-audio-atx-z97-pro4?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products&gclid=CIW5ypun5b8CFQjItAodw1UA4g

That looks like decent board. Although I have heard some pretty disparaging things about Asrock's quality. This is mostly from internett hardware snobs though. I have no personal experience. The second x16 PCIe lane is 2.0. I am not exactly sure if that will limit your performance in crossfire.

yes i noticed that it was 2.0 aswel. i think i may have to just push the boat out and look for a board that has two 3.0 pcie lanes and will work with sli and crossfire. quite hard finding one tho

cool, so the msi board looks really good as well, next question would be sli/crossfire. so i have a r9 290 at the moment and i was thinking of putting that into crossfire with another one but they run soooo hot i dont really want two of those cards in the same case, it would be like a sauna. any idea of a good replacement from nvidia maybe?

ok so reading reviews the gtx780ti is one of the best gaming cards you can get. not cheap tho are they. my current card you can buy for just less than £300 at the moment, maybe its worth getting a bigger case for more air ventilation and buying a second r9 290?

i dont like the idea of watercooling lol just gives me the creeps thinking theres water in my system. maybe i could buy a bigger case, as the one i have at the moment isnt the biggest. and the r9 290 runs at 50degrees idle and about 75degrees to 80degrees under load. so very hot. and i have the tri-x version which is cooler, to be fair i will need a bigger case if i upgrade my motherboard anyhow as its quite tight at the moment. only a inch or so away from my psu

my case has good air flow at the minute, its just quite small, so im guessing a bigger case would help it breath in essence. i currently have 6 120mm case fans which help it alot as before i added them i had 2 and my gfx card temps were slightly higher.
