Conisdering that a 3D display is basically a normal display with a 2x refresh rate of 120hz and basically shows you 2 alternating images of 60hz/fps each to create a 3D effect, shouldnt a reguler display running at 60hz be able to display 2 alternate images of 30hz each to create 3D, albeit at 30 frames a second? which anyways is what most movies are shown at?

Thats only theoretical as realistically speaking the onboard controllers for standard monitors are not equipped for such things unless it is specifically specified. I've tried just playing Sonic Generations in stereoscopic 3D mode on a standard 60Hz monitor and all it does is show two separate boxes of the game instead of a layered stereoscopic 3D image. And my GPU being a 7970, is well equipped to play the game in 3D and officially supports it.
