IF you already have the system built don't change anything. I think that people are way too quick to scream bottle-neck sometimes. A lot of regurgitated bro-science is also applied. I am running an Athlon II X4 630 from 2010. I have a GTX750ti SC and I am posting 47FPS in Bioshock Infinite and over 50FPS in GTA IV. Furthermore I went to EA's website and put in my system specs and I will dominate every game that they have except for Watchdogs.
If you go on CPU boss and compare our two CPUs you will see that Your's dominates mine. So you should not have a problem. IT is essentially the same CPU that is in the PS4 and the XBONE
would over clocking my CPU help? (using a hyper 212 evo)
Yes it will definitely help a lot, and the h212 is an excellent cooling solution. It cools better than all-in one water coolers and is more quiet as well. The Athlon 750k is built to be overclocked and you can find a lot of tutorials online.
What I would do is benchmark all the games that you're playing currently, get a solid OC and then BM again and compare results. You should get at least a few FPS improvement in some titles.
Also as a side note; some of the results that you see online may be run on an OC monster machine with a decent OC on the card. When shopping for my card I ran into this a few times. The truth is that I am not going to spend $250-$300 on a CPU and then only $150 on a GPU. I was looking for a card that would fit my system and my requirements. Building a well balanced and cost-effective gaming rig is an art that some don't understand. They just want to throw all the biggest numbers that they can in cart and all they end up with is a $4k system that never gets built. Work with what you have available now. You will find that it will perform a lot better than you expected. Let others spend $1000s on a rig that only gets 15FPS better than yours.
