Pretty much all the fans I'm going to be getting are just simply black. I'm looking for another way to get the job done the same way LED fans would. What are some of the best most efficient ways to do it?

There are a few options depending on budget.
First, what is your case?

The two prominent options are cold cathodes, and LED strips.
The first being cheaper, and "brighter" but they lack the color quality of LEDs, have ugly cables, and converter boxes.
LED strips are easier to use, flexible, but costly. You get what you pay for though, they look cleaner, better overall color, and certain models are RGB color changeable.

the nzxt hue is great if you have an open 5.25 in drive bay

I actually have a cold cathode in my case. I've yet to change out the fans though. Its most likely not going to be enough by itself. Can you recommend any brands?

I chose a cheap 2/1 cathode kit on newegg, like 7 bucks I think? They are just dual 12" blue. They provide the case with a large source of light. A bit bright but I digress. Any cheap cathodes are the same.
For LED, the NZXT hue is good, here is a build using just LEDs. http://imgur.com/a/IbCNr
Also just happens to be my favorite build done in a 300r.

I may just buy the same kit I have right now. Put one on the top and bottom.

Where do you keep the inverter on the top at?

My kit uses one inverter for both cathodes, you can see it has two slots in the bottom picture.
The top pic has both running, the bottom one was when I spliced in some old power supply cables (See left) to make it reach the top of the case. I route them around the front.
You can see them in this picture, the cathode is stuck up by the radiator

You just gave me an idea. Since I have a really big case. I may buy one of each. My case can handle four cathodes. Like I said, thanks for the help! The only thing to worry about are expansion slots. But I have bunch.
