Hi guys,

About a month ago, I spent some savings on an XFX R9 280X. Fab buy, I've been chuffed with it ever since.

Recently I temporarily fit a new hard drive to my PC, I did all the usual, grounding myself, Isolating the PC from the mains, and what not. The SATA Transfer cable was under the GPU, so I unscrewed the GPU and screwed it back on. Everything is still working fine.

Recently I take out the temporary hard drive, put the card back in, and start the PC up. I notice that my both of my two monitors were just mirrors of each other. I go to change this and windows isn't detecting two separate monitors. I'm soon informed by an abrupt error message that either the AMD Display Driver isn't installed, or isn't functioning properly.

In true troubleshooting fashion, I turn the PC on and off again. Nothing. So I uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I receive an error from the CCC install window upon completion telling me there were some errors. I click to view the logs and I get this:

Error messages

Driver Install: the installation failed

After uninstalling and reinstalling a few different times, in different ways each time (even actually restarting the PC like you're asked to) and Uninstalling the old Nvidia drivers I had never gotten rid of, the drivers still won't install :(

I've checked the the GPU is firmly slotted and screwed in, and the power is well stuck in too.

Everything was fine until turning the PC on today, I have no idea what to do.

Please help!

This is pretty easy to fix.

1. Download DDU http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-unin...
2. Uninstall Catalyst Control Install Manager and whatever other Catalyst Control Center related products there are in Control Panel > Uninstall a Program. Select Custom Uninstall and check every single box there is.
3. Download this: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool And save it into a brand new folder on your desktop! NOWHERE ELSE! Or download the AMD 14.4 Driver and do the same thing.
4. Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during windows boot
5. Run DDU, check the box that says erase c:/amd/nvidia folders, and press the button at the top that says "Recommened" Wipe and Reboot.
6. Boot regularly and navigate to the folder where you saved either the Auto Detect Driver download software, or amd 14.4.
7. Install and reboot.

This should work. Tell me your results.

You also mentioned that you removed the temporary hard drive. You cannot use any devices that are installed on the other hard drive if you have another one. You must have the drivers installed on the hard drive that contains the OS, otherwise you will run into countless errors.

I was aware of this the drivers were on C:\ :( . But thank you so much Anthony! You're a Hero! Everything's fine now, thanks to you!

Have a great day :)
