Is it time to upgrade my CPU?

Well I am currently in a little bit of a predicament I built my pc about 3 years ago now with the AMD 8150 CPU because I really liked AMD in the past and thought that the new Bulldozer would be amazing. Well as you know the 8150 was a huge flop and I have been plagued with this CPU since than. I know that Intel will be coming out with the new haswell e and the new X99 chipset this fall and I needed to know if its a good idea to just wait it out for that or just go with Devils Canyon CPU's?

Are you going to be using the machine for gaming or for workstation tasks such as hardcore video editing, rendering, etc?

If it is for gaming I would save money and go for LGA 1150 with the z97 chipset. x99 will be overkill for games and the extra money that you spend on that could be used to purchase a higher quality video card. With games I would go for the 4960k i5 or if you will do some video editing and such, you can go with the 4790k i7.

Personally, I'm waiting for the middle of 2015 to jump to Intel... by then the upgrade would probably be more worth it. I have an FX 6300, and haven't had an issue running anything yet. While the FX is pretty weak now compared to Haswell, Ivy-E, etc, I feel it will be worth holding out a little bit longer. Who knows, AMD may just surprise us.

Thanks for the replies! Yea I would be using it for a little bit of video editing and encoding but that's nothing the i5 can't handle. But yea I mean idk about waiting for amd I waited a long time for amd to release the fx series and I was so disappointed I mean it's the 8150 single core performance is almost the same as my old core 2 quad that I use to game on... The absolute only reason I am thinking of switching to intel is because with my cpu I get about 20 to 40 less FPS in every game I have tested against the i5 4690k...

AMD certainly has its place. I used to be an AMD person around the Windows 98 era. However, once Intel released their Core products AMD has really not been able to recover. The power usage alone is something to consider. Sure it may not be reflected much in your monthly bill, but over the life of the system you could very well save enough money to make up the difference in price between a cheaper AMD and the more expensive Intel which makes the price difference a moot point.

I see what you are saying. I am not worried about the power usage truthfully I mean if amd came out with a decent cpu that was like 200W TDP I would get it no problem (but they have not done that). I just look at all these gaming results with the new i5 4690k getting about 10 to 25 fps more in all games. I use to have the Radion HD 7850 but i upgraded to the GTX 780 when it came out so before I never had a problem cause the CPU was not the problem now with a more powerful GPU my cpu is not up to par and cannot keep up with my 780. I just know regardless of what I do most likely I will be needing a new MOBO as well which will be unfortunate...
