Wondering what parts need upgrading for gaming

I'm looking at possibly upgrading my system but I'm not entirely sure what will make the biggest difference.

First of all, this system is primarily for gaming. My current specs:
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
GFX - ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB
RAM - 4x 2GB
MoBo - Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H
PSU - Rosewill AP-600X 550 watt
SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
HDD - WDC WD5000aads-00s9b0 500GB

It'll run most games at high settings with decent frame rate but my goal is to max out settings and keep frame rate at at least 60 running at 1080p for whatever games I throw at it. I believe my monitor caps out at 1920x1080@60fps (Samsung SyncMaster B2430HD) and I might be interested in upgrading to a higher max frame rate in the future, but probably not for this upgrade.

My budget is $500. I know my graphics card needs to be replaced and I'm considering upgrading to an Nvidia card, probably a GTX 760 (the game streaming feature is what leans me toward Nvidia).

My question is whether or not it would make a big difference to upgrade any other parts as well. I would venture to guess that the PSU will have to be replaced to accommodate a more powerful GFX card and that my CPU is old enough that it could be a potential bottleneck for some CPU-intensive games. Any suggestions?

Let me know if I left out any important information.

Honestly, I would put most of my money in a gpu. Most games out there rely more on the gpu than the cpu. However, I'm an intel user so I can't quite determine whether or not your gpu will be bottle necked, but i really doubt it. As for the psu, 550w is definitely enough to power your system.
