Okay, forgive any ignorance.

Out of the blue one day, I started seeing some random artifacts on my screen. They would go away when the display was changed, or pop up out of random. Over time it has gotten worse, and when I Googled (which brought me to this site numerous times), a lot of the issues pointed to my video card dying. Fair enough, picked one out on Newegg, and was about to buy one soon.

But then I noticed a pattern. If I use my PC for quite some time, or an extended period of time, the issue would resolve itself, like right now as I type this. Sometimes, when the issue gets so bad, I can barely use my computer. It gets to the point where there are so many Fireworks-looking things all over the place, or everything would be stretched and just look like crap. Again, would always go away or change if I moved or made the display to something different, like minimizing a browser window.

One would think after more use the issue would actually worsen, but it's almost the opposite. I also read that it could be the Heat Sink, but I'm not sure and wanted to ask before I drop dime on a $200 video card.

I have experienced zero crashes. No blue screens, nothing. Just a lot of artifacts that seem to resolve itself after hours of consecutive use.

Thanks for all of the help. My video card is a 1GB Radeon 6900.

The problem sounds like overheating. Does your case have fans in it? If so, how many and where? Where is your case placed? The solution might just be adjusting the placement of fans and your case so that it has better ventilation.

Yeah my case has fans: One in the front, two on top, two on the sides. My tower is actually colder than room temperature to the touch, and it's not crammed in a boxy area. It's next to my TV stand, and a sub woofer all with 3-4 inches of space between on the sides. The front is wide open as far as space, and the back is about a foot away from the wall.

I left my PC on overnight and have yet to experience the issue.

Still no solution.

I'm going to do some extra cleaning and use different HDMI cables to see if it will help. I always thought it was my videos card but after hours of use and the issue resolving itself but then coming back after boot is puzzling.

I'll post back with an update.
