I want to create a gaming pc for $1500 that includes a cd rom, 144hz monitor, and z97 motherboard. I will be using it for mostly gaming and some school work. If you have to go a little over 1500 dollars that is fine. Thanks and I appreciate your ideas.

Since you're in school you can buy the OS from Microsoft's site for a much cheaper price than any other site vendors. Use a USB to install the OS. That's why I didn't add the OS and optical drive. Enjoy.

I don't think r9 290 is a efficient graphics card. Is a EVGA geforce gtx 770 dual ftw acx better?

The r9 290 is a stronger graphics card than the gtx 770. It'll use more power than the gtx 770 no doubt. I'm not really sure what you mean by an efficient graphics card. If you mean that it's not efficiently cooled, then it really depends on the cooler that you get. The windforce and tri-x coolers are probably two of the better ones for getting rid of the heat from the card.

killed the ssd so add that later and add that money on gpu so build 2 will get more fps than build 1!
added locked cpu in build 2 also because u can add the money in gpu.u can overclock in build 1 as u wanted but the performance in games will not likely improve as much as if u add powerful gpu.And the difference between 4690k and 4590 is not much.
