Hi,

I am new here. I have searched google but ended up with no results. I have an Asus M2N68-VM motherboard with an AMD triple core 8450.

I want to swap the processor into an Athlon II X2 255. I have looked into the manufacturer's website and the Athlon II X2 255 isn't on the compatibility list. The closest to it is an Athlon II X2 250e and 260.

The thing that i thought was that as long as they have the same socket (am2+) then it should work?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Update: I just read that the Athlon II X2 255 and the Athlon II X2 260 have the same CPUID : 100F63 for what it's worth.. They are also both 65W.

Here's a CPU I recommend: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-adx455wfgmbox

Be sure to update your motherboard BIOS for AM3+ CPU's.

Honestly though, technology is changing and really I feel you should get a new motherboard with a great AM3+/FM2+ CPU

Here's a good FM2+ build for normal use: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sNLmmG

Here's a cheap FM2+ build for gaming use: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Vkv923

This is something i will look to some time next year as i do not have the budget to upgrade the whole lot all together. Thanks for that, but to stay on topic.. Will it be compatible or not?

It should be; according to the site it is AM2+ and AM3/AM3+ compatible.

(Update: Contact me when you are building your new computer as technology will have changed. [especially for the gaming build])

I just went ahead and tested it before i got a straight answer from here. Luckily it all worked out for me :)

I was told that just because a cpu has the same socket as the motherboard, it doesn't always mean it's directly compatible. I used to think that way but it somehow made sense?

Anyway thanks for the help!
