Overclocking MSI GTX 760 OC Twin Frozr

Hi,

I am in the process of overclocking my MSI GTX 760 OC graphics card.

I would like to know if my PSU is limiting my OC because using Unigine Heaven, I get an error, DeviceError: Device Hang, and my OC is not that high yet.

Using Afterburner I have added 95 to core clock and 85 to memory frequency. If I go any higher then I get the error.

Power consumption is peaking at 72%. Temps haven't gone higher that 58 degrees at full load.

I have seen people overclock this card much higher than what I am getting. I know each card is different but I have seen people get +140 to core and +200 to memory. I am getting not even half of that on memory.

In saying that. I have also heard that the current driver is giving DirectX 11 issues.

I want to know if my PSU could be a limiting factor. I have a Thermaltake ToughPower 550w 80+ Bronze Certified.

  1. Your power supply is not made for doing any serious overclocking per tier 3 http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html which may affect the gpu overclock.

http://www.eteknix.com/msi-geforce-gtx-760-twin-frozr-gaming-oc-edition-2gb-graphics-card-review/17/ says they got to 1120/1890 so 100/390 OC

That PSU isn't too bad, it might limit your OC slightly but not enough to justify buying a new PSU. I get a similar OC with my Gigabyte 760. Don't worry about it. Your card has a fairly high factory overclock so it's no surprise you can't push it very far. Just be happy with the OC you can get. :)
  3. I figured that the PSU would not provide serious overclocking but adding an amount of 85 to memory is so minimal. Could it be the Unigine Heaven and the fact that im running it on ultra ?

I hear you Alex. Just disappointed because the MSI version of the card has good OC potential. Hopefully I will get to test my machine with a better PSU this weekend. Will keep you updated on that.

Okay, sounds good. It'll be interesting to find out if a better quality PSU can get you a higher overclock. :)
  5. I did forget to add that I do get the same stable overclock even if I increase the power limit and core voltage or try them individually.

That's odd... I'd recommend just setting them as low as they'll go with your max OC without crashes or artifacting to keep temps down. :)
  7. Temps have never been a problem and I dont think they will either. The Twin Frozr cooler is epic. Never been higher than 58 degree. I have let it run at load for a good hour.

Nice! My Gigabyte 760 goes around 66C, but it doesn't worry me. :)
  9. Ya my chassis has some good airflow. As well as 5 fans.
