i recently upgraded to Comcast 50mb/s service... but im only getting 6.7MB/s on my browser, utorrent, steam etc...... is there a difference between mb/s and MB/s?.... when i called them, they told me i should be getting at least 30mb/s or 30MB/s ( not sure which one because they didn't specify)... i scheduled and appointment with one of their technicians to see if there is a problem with the connection.. should i cancel???? what speeds should i expect from my connection.. thank you :)

Yes, if you subscribed for a 50 Megabit per second download service and you get 6.7 Megabytes per second download then yeah you should cancel your appointment. check speedtest.net to see if you get what you are paying for (this should show your download speed in Megabits per second. if it is around 50 then cancel your appointment.

Yes it is very easy to mix up the two since it's only a matter of the casing of the 'b' which screws a lot of people thinking they are getting a faster speed than expected if the user is not aware what the difference is.

to be clear you subscribed to 50Mbps (megabits per second) download but you are getting 6.7MBps (MegaBYTES per second). 50 MegaBITS per second is equal to about 6.25 MegaBYTES per second. Yes there is a large difference.

EDIT: So if i converted correctly, you are actually getting faster speeds than what was promised to you.

lower case b = bit
upper case B = Byte

That is a very hard speed to find in the U.S. The only ISP's I'm aware that have packages there and higher are Verizon FiOS and Google Fiber. There aren't many areas that have this connection speed in the United States. 50 MB/s download connection is about 400 Mb/s
