Hello forums, my dad just recently bought a gaming laptop, he hasn't even had it for two months and its already acting up. He was just using it normally and it started to act weirdly, then after I cleaned up A LOT of adware, viruses and even a few Trojans with Bit Defender it was better, but then drivers started to suddenly disappear such as Adobe flash, Java and the GPU suddenly wasn`t recognized in the system. I re-installed Java and Adobe along with Ad Block for Chrome and a pop-up blocker as well but pop-ups continuously showed up in a chrome window. I am thinking that the driver problems (GPU not included) were related to everything I got rid of in Bit Defender (viruses and such) but after deciding enough was enough and that Windows 8 just wasn`t worth it or actually useful at all I decided to `downgrade` to 7. After spending literally the whole day maneuvering the shitpit of software infrastructure known as Windows 8, I finally succeeded in my task, but now I have a bigger problem. As it was before I touched the computer the GPU is not recognized in the system, neither does NVIDIA GPU search online or any Geforce drivers or the Geforce Experience utility they all seem to think there is no GPU. I went into the device manager and in its place is ``Standard VGA Graphics Adapter`` I tried disabling this and uninstalling to see if the drivers would then work but no luck. There are no discrete graphics options in the BIOS for this laptop and I still don`t know how to solve this problem. I think it is a bad driver or just a driver issue but I don`t have as much experience with GPU troubleshooting as I wish I had. I am desperate any help would be appreciated.

My research turned up this guide if my above post does not work.

Essentially they want you to edit a .inf file to add your Graphics Card's Device ID number. This may help with installing your drivers,. While it may seem complex you do not put any part of your system at risk by following the above guide.
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter is what Windows defaults to calling your GPU when a driver is absent or corrupt. It's what Windows interprets a Graphics Card when there is no Driver around to give it specific details on the hardware.

What I'm confused about, in your description, is whether you are having trouble installing drivers for your GPU, as this is the most obvious fix for your problem (install the latest, non-Beta Drivers for your Graphics Card from Nvidia's website).

Also, what version of Windows 7 are you running?

Standard procedure, if you haven't tried already, is to boot into Safe Mode, Uninstall all old Nvidia Drivers ( Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Display Adapter > Right-Click GPU and select 'Properties' > Click 'Driver' Tab > Select 'Uninstall' > Reboot ) then download the latest non-beta drivers for the 880M from Nvidia's website, install and reboot.

If that isn't working, are you noticing anything strange about the Driver install process or receiving any error messages when you install your GPU's Drivers?

Just tried this, did not work. There is no GPU in the display adapter section, it is the "Standard VGA Adapter" which I think you meant?? Anyways the 'drivers' for it re-installed as soon as I rebooted and the non-beta official WHQL version says "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware", when I know for a fact I have the card and also that this is the right driver.

Your problem seems to be Windows Update is trying to do the Driver Installation for you and is installing the wrong drivers. To Disable Windows Update do the following:

Click Start Menu and type change device installation settings click the icon and you'll get a Dialog box with two options. Select the second option a new set of options will appear, from these select Never install driver software from Windows Update.

Delete your current GPU Drivers using the method described in my last post and reboot your system.

Hopefully, on startup, your system won't try to automatically install your GPU Drivers.

Now, proceed to www.nvidia.com and download the GeForce 880M Drivers for your version of Win 7 (are you running 32bit or 64bit Windows?).

Install the drivers using the file you just downloaded and reboot. Hopefully that should resolve the issue.

You could also try clicking Update Driver found in the same place as the Uninstall button I described in my previous post. That would direct Windows directly to your GPU possibly evading any 'could not detect compatible graphics hardware' issues.

Make sure all previous drivers have been removed?

Searched my computer top to bottom not a single Nvidia file left on the computer or registry that isn't part of the new drivers folder. I for some reason, can install PhysX and DirectX manually from inside the folder and both installed perfectly, but the driver install still doesn't want to cooperate.
