Hi there

Im gonna buy the Lenovo X1 Carbon Generation 2 (2014). Only thing is I need to choose the CPU. I have the choice between i7-4600u and the i7-4550u both for about the same price.
To my understanding the 4600u has a better CPU performance (and usually more expensive) than the 4550u but the later has a better graphics performance (maybe therefore a little less battery life?). I like to play game here and there if I'm bored at an airport.... for example (Fifa 2013, Battlefield... whatever comes out. I understand it will not be in high resolution or anything but playable...

So my question which one should I buy? and is there going to be a real life difference between those two?

:)

Here is Intel's comparison of the 2 CPUs: http://ark.intel.com/compare/75112,76616

As you said, the i7 4600U offers the weaker Intel 4400 HD Graphics while the i7 4550U operates at slightly slower clock speeds, 1.5 GHz vs 2.1 GHz, and slower Turbo speeds, 3.0 GHz vs 3.3 GHz.

It sounds like you don't game a whole lot. If that is true, I would opt for the faster clock speeds of the i7 4600U. If not, go for the better graphics of the i7 4550U.

Hi Yogi

Thank you for the quick reply :)
Actually I game a lot but for that I use my PC. I would love to play much more... especially while waiting in airports and so on but that would depend on the Laptop.
I tend towards the 4550u because I have the feeling in real life the slightly better CPU of the 4600u is unnoticeable - would you agree?
What about battery life? is the 4600u much better on battery?

Im not sure I understand the clock speed. The initial clock speed of the 4550u is lower however it should make such a difference right? Since it can turbo boost up to 3.0ghz.
