So I will mainly be playing Battlefield 4 and I want to know which card will be best for me. The GTX 770 seems to outperform the r9 280x on recent benchmarks. Can anyone point me toward a conclusive decision? Please provide reliable, recent benchmarks, especially on Battlefield 4!
If you want to go the extra mile, also tell me which is the best gtx 770 card and which is the best r9 280x card! Thanks, a reply as soon as possible would be great!

Honestly both cards are even. Some games favour the 280x and some favour the GTX770. It just depends on what suits your needs best for the games you play. In this case the gtx770 usually does better than the 280x for BF4. That is until you hit a higher resolution, in which case the extra ram starts to come in handy and the 280x overtakes the GTX770: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_geforce_g... Just look at the GTX 770 and the 280x. I wanted to link a recent article that would be using the more recent drivers for both to illistrate my point.
You also mentioned that you want the best 770/280x you can get. Well for the price you would be looking at you could get an r9 290. The higher end overclocked versions of both cards are over $400 and the regular r9 290 can be found for less than that now.
So what is your budget?

For specifically Battlefield 4, the 280X is a much better choice. I didn't see too stellar performance in BF4 on my 770, with frequent dips below 60FPS on Ultra at 1080P, which doesn't seem too bad but people with less powerful cards and similar CPUs were supposedly getting better performance. Also, Battlefield 4 uses the Mantle API, which improves performance and only works on AMD Graphics cards, so thats another reason for the 280X for Battlefield 4.
For the best, it is really up to you and your opinion, but overall the best 280X is the Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=Cj0KEQ...
Hope I was able to help!

So what is your budget?well that's not the case in the UK the r9 290 was what I was initially going to get, but the price kept creeping up on amazon, was initially £260 then has since shot up to £300 cheapest, whereas the 280x is about £220-£250.
So I am hoping to get a r9 280x for under £240 tbh

Is that reliable? I tend to avoid cards that are that much cheaper than its competitors because I dont trust them.

Is what reliable? The Sapphire Vapor-X version, or the 280X in general? If you are referring to the 280X vs the GTX 770, I can say that yes, AMD probably has their act together at this point. Originally, I had a 280X, but it was DoA, so I returned it and instead of paying more for a replacement one due to a price hike, I asked for a refund and got a GTX 770. But now, it is probably fine to get a 280X.
If you are referring to the Sapphire Vapor-X version of the 280X, I don't know what you're talking about, because that is the highest tier 280X around, and probably the most costly. The XFX R9 280X is $290 USD, while the Vapor-X edition is ~$340. However, I would say the extra cost is justified because not only is the Vapor-X cooling system more effective than the competition, it also has a tri-fan setup, while others only use 2 fans, so your card will be cooler, meaning you can overclock it to higher levels, leading to better performance, and still have it last longer than other cards.

Well, the prices aren't universal, and because i'm in the UK, the sapphire vapor x is £200 which is £7 more than the xfx edition. which makes it £50 cheaper than the gigabyte windforce edition
plus on amazon it's £250
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Vapor-X-Radeon-GDDR5-G...
but on that website it's £200, so it makes me doubt its reliability

Ah okay, I see what you mean, sorry, I didn't realize that's where you lived. As you can tell by looking at the images, the Sapphire card you linked and the one I linked are actually different, as the one I linked is a triple fan setup and the one you linked is dual fan. Dual fan is perfectly fine however, don't think you need three fans as they use two because it works well too.
Don't worry, Sapphire is a reliable company that makes reliable cards, I can vouch for that as can many others, but if you prefer Gigabyte or XFX, by all means, get the card from the manufacturer you prefer, as it is your graphics card and ultimately you are the one who will own it and have to decide whether you like it or not. Look at the specs of each different mfg card, decide which makes the most sense price-to-specs, and purchase whatever 280X you desire.
Why don't you tell me what 280X you are most interested in, and I will do my best to confirm if it is a good model?

Okay, I'm mainly interested in the following:
Gigabyte r9 280x, however I am reluctant to buy due to no reviews on amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Radeon-280X-Internal-G...
Msi:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-Graphic-384-Bit-DL-DVI-I-Mi...
Asus:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-R9280X-DC2T-3GD5-1070MHz-E...
Sapphire:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-VAPOR-X-Graphics-384-b...
I'm hesitant to get the gigabyte or sapphire because when i look at the product on amazon it doesnt mention anything about warranty. Does that mean it doesn't come with it or does it just have the regular 3 years?

In my opinion, the very best is the Sapphire card, followed by the Gigabyte, then MSI, then Asus. I like Asus products, but have gotten a few too many bad GPUs from them. If possible, I would go for the Sapphire card.hmm, okay, I was planning on getting the toxic r9 280x or if I go up to a r 290, I was thinking of going to an asus r9 290, bad call? the toxic is £299.99 on overclockers uk but I dont particularly trust the website. But on amazon the asus is £305 and the toxic r9 290 is way more expensive. Advise? If i get a r9 290 should I just get a toxic off overclockers uk?

I have never used Overclockers UK before, I would do a web legitimacy search about that website before you buy just to make sure the site will work out for you just in case. But, if the Asus R9 290 and Sapphire Toxic 280X are very close in price, I would definitely go with the Asus R9 290. The 290 has more raw power than the 280X, and will get you better performance than the best possible 280X. The Asus model cooler is pretty solid too, so as long as the card itself actually works, you should be okay with the Asus 290. Also, if temps are too high with the Asus 290 (which I doubt will happen), you can always put on a water cooling unit later. There are plenty of how-to guides online that can show you, so if need be you can do that.

Oh, I thought you meant the Toxic 280X, my bad. If you're willing to spend in that price range for a GPU and are comfortable buying from that website, then yes, I would go with the Toxic 290 instead of the Asus one.

Then don't buy from that website, computer parts have a particularly high chance of having issues on arrival than many other things because the shipping process can be very hard on products, and computer parts are extra sensitive. Hopefully you won't need to make any returns, but you want to be able to for sure just in case.

Yes, there really is no performance difference between any company of the same GPU, the only difference in performance comes from their factory overclocks. If you overclock to the same level you will get the same performance, and doing so is very easy.
The main difference between different models of GPUs is the aethstetics, quality of components, and cooling. If you're still on the fence, I would look up different aspects of the cards, such as the ability of the cooling unit, the amount of noise it makes, etc. Otherwise, I think the Asus model is fine.
