Best use of space: H80i or NH-D15?

I'm setting up an Antec Three Hundred Two for a new build. I want to mod the side panel with a 230mm intake fan for the graphics card(s) and a120mm intake around the CPU. I believe any of the large, high end coolers will come right up to the side of the case. This means my intake fan has to fit between the cooler and the 5.25" drive bays. It can overlap, but that would be wasted air-flow.

If a NH-D15 works well with both fans in a pull configuration, then I think it might fit half decent. I know that cooler will out perform an H80i and be more quiet. It has no fluid to leak, no pump to fail and no software to install. On the other hand, Newegg has a sweet deal on a refurbished H80i that ends today, making it half the price of a D-15. It's also going to be a cleaner install, not put all that wight on the mobo and open up more space to do whatever I want with fans. I expect either cooler should give adequate performance to overclock whichever CPU I choose.

Someone help me choose! In terms of cost and physical dimensions, the H80i is the clear winner. In terms of performance and sound level, the NH-D15 crushes it in reviews. I'm really not sure which way to go.

You are out of options here beciasse of your configuration. Stick with H80i. It is a double thick rad and it will do the job for you. I always recommend Noctua's coolers at top priority but in this case H80i is a way to go. Sound level won't be that high that you are gonna cover your ears :)

Thanks for the input. Low sound level at idle is a very high priority. If the fans ramp up within reason, I don't notice the noise during gaming. I just don't want to hear them when I'm sitting back, just listening to music (or watching a movie) with my high end, open headphones.

Also, if some knows specifically how well an NH-D15 will work with both fans on pull, to open up as much space as possible on the intake side, what would be nice to know.

Any other cooler suggestions are welcome.

Update: I may have answered my own question. The NH-U14S single tower appears to offer performance in between the D15 and H80i without the fitment headaches. Thoughts? I'm gonna go read some more reviews on it..

NH-D15 is a beast with beastly performance. By Pull you mean taking fresh air from the HDD cage side and throwing it towards the back side of the case? If that is so then yes go for NH-D15. In case it is otherwise then still you can go for NH-D15 but in that case you would have to make sure that front fans are mounted in such a way that they throw hot air out (Not ideal though)

Now I'm finding myself trying to choose between the NH-U14S and the NH-U12S. The U14S is much more impressive looking, but the U12S seems 95% as good and doesn't block the top PCI slot... Which might be the only one open if I buy a second PCS+ 290X for a higher res. monitor...

And yet, I might still give the H80i a go out of curiosity. I have to say though, installing a bulky looking software app to run in the background all the time isn't too appealing. Anyone know if I can just plug the H80i's fans and/or pump into a fan controller and call it a day?

Still looking for input, thanks everyone.

There is another option for you with H80i. you can remove the stock fans with SP 120 fans and use LNA (Low Noise Adapter) with SP 120 fans to reduce the fan speed, hence noise. you don't need software to use H80i. It is more of a gimmick from Corsair with Corsair Link add ons.

I'm using NH-U14S, I'm greatly impressed with its performance, looks everything.

My choice for NH-U14S was based on the very fact that i did not want to compromise the looks on Corsair Dominator Platinum RAMs and their heatsinks. NH-D14 was out of the question. I ditched H100i and went for NH-U14S and it worked like marketed.

Another option is NZXT Kraken X40/X41. check it out.

Well, I finally decided that for $50 I should have given then H80i a go, if out of pure curiosity. Since I missed that deal, I'm more likely to go with a Nactua air cooler. Now I'm just trying to research fitment of the 14S vs. the 12S... I have plenty of time. Thanks for the help, EasyLover.
