Hey guys,
my setup: i5-4670K on a Gigabyte Z97-SLI board, R9 280X, 16GB PNY XLR8 ram, 120GB SSD system drive, 2 x 3TB seagape drives for storage Windows 7 64bit
Unfortunately when I installed 7, I didn't know how to do a UEFI install, but it doesn't matter cause it boots to windows in like 4 seconds in Legacy mode.
But, I got these 2 3TB drives I want to set up in RAID 1 to be redundant. I've never set up RAID before, and after trying to do so (Choose RAID instead of AHCI in the BIOS and then choosing the 2 drives in the CTRL-I menu), I get BSOD and it restarts. I go to the GB website, and they have an Intel SATA preinstall driver to address RAID issues. I've downloaded it, but have no idea how to install. I don't actually have to reinstall my OS so I can "preinstall" these, do I? Can anyone point me in the right direction, or tell me what to do?
Also, is there anyway to skip the CTRL-I RAID configuration screen at boot? It really slows down my boot times. Does a UEFI install do the same thing, or is it more contained inside the UEFI/BIOS/ whatever it's called now? The reason I ask is this is going to be a MAME machine that I'm planning on shelling windows and booting right into hyperspin, so anything to disguise the PC booting portion of this is welcome.
One more question, can I change from a RAID 1 to a RAID 5 down the line without losing everything if I get another identical drive? Or do I have to rebuild from scratch?
EDIT - Device manager says this Is my SATA Driver: Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller - 8C82
which it then lists as being from 2006. WTF?
