Just bought a new motherboard, memeory and SSD hard drive with 2 TB hard drive for user files. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 installed but now it freezes during the install of the drivers. The hard drives are blank and new. I also tried to use Ubuntu on the computer with no problems. I have checked the ram, video, power supply and hard drives and can find nothing wrong.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Ram: Corsair Vengance Pro Series DDR3 2x8GB (Total 32GB Ram)
CPU: AMD AM3+ FX 990
Power Supply Antec 850W
Video: EVGA GTX 470

interesting. BIOS reports that the memory is running at 1344Mhz. However, it should be running at 1866Mhz. Also noted, the computer will freeze even before I can put in the drivers. Other than that, Windows does report the complete Ram at 32GB and CPU processor speed correctly.

On a side note the CPU is an AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7GHz Socket AM3+ 220W

You know, looking at that board I don't even see anyplace for the 4pin 12V power. According to this article it HAS to have it or it will cause crashes. This may or may not be relevant but I saw it so I thought I'd mention it since it mentions your CPU is the one they are talking about. http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/297388-amd-fx-9590-review.html

What revision of motherboard do you have, because if you have the revision 1 motherboard I'm pretty sure it does not support that processor. The revision 3 might not even support it. I think you might have to have the revision 5 or 7 for support, but I might be full of shit too so let's check into this a little further.

Ok, if you go to gigabyte and look at the pages for your motherboard, which excuse me for saying revision 3, 5 and 7 when what I should have said is UD3, UD5 and UD7 versions of the 990FX board, there are distinct differences between the UD3 and UD5 boards and the UD7 board. The first two definitely don't have any additional power connectors while if you look closely at that UD7 board there is another connector that says ATX4P. I know you don't want to hear this but it's possible that processor will not work with the version of board you have. I hope I'm wrong and hopefully if one of the other guys here knows for sure on this they will lend a voice to this discussion to clarify whether it is or isn't supported and with which board. Or you can contact Gigabyte and ask them and make sure to tell them you have the UD5 board. Under the CPU support list on their website it just shows 990FX board supporting your processor but it doesn't say which version.

The board i have is the ud5 which only has the 24pin atx connector and the 8 pin connector. I did remove 2 sticks of ram from slots 3 and 4 (yes I know that takes it out of duel channel) but it seems to be working now. I will post to let you know if this solved any problems or not.

I don't know if this is likely, or even possible, but maybe if the CPU and RAM are using too much power, and you don't have enough being supplied because of that deal with the connector, perhaps removing two sticks freed up enough voltage to allow the CPU to function without error. Just a wild hypothesis but again, I suppose it's a possibility.
