Hey guys. I'm thinking about buying a dedicated video card for PhysX and I'm triyng to figure out which one would be the best.

My setup:

  • cpu: Intel i7 3770 (non K)
    gpu: Asus GTX 760 2GB DCOC2 ddr5
    ram: 16 GB DDR3 1600Mhz
motherboard: MSI H77MA-G43 (I do have one pci-e 2.0 slot available)
psu: Thermaltake Smart SE 530W (my system's using about 400W at the moment)
I do have a good cooling and airflow in my computer (just to avoid questions).

I was thinking about getting a GTX 750 Ti as a dedicated PhysX card but still wanted to hear your suggestions. What do you think? Which one would suit best for my setup?

Thanks for your replies.

None of the above? You aren't going to see a huge performance increase from adding a PhysX card.

You would be better off replacing the motherboard for one that can do SLI and get a second GTX760 for the amount you would spend getting a 750Ti.

Or replace the video card completely for something like an R9-290 or a GTX780.

It depends on the game. Some use a lot of PhysX particles and effects and some don't.
Also, the GTX760 is much more expensive than a 750Ti. So if I were to buy another GTX760 plus a new motherboard, I'd spend way more than if I bought a single 750Ti.

About 210€ for GTX760 and 120€ for GTX750Ti. So how's a new motherboard + another 760 going to be cheaper than a single 750Ti? Or am I not getting something here?

It is called throwing good money after bad. Buying a somewhat expensive video card to increase performance in only PhysX titles versus spending a little more to improve performance on everything.

Yes a GTX760 is more expensive then a 750Ti, yes adding a motherboard increases the cost.

Your motherboard already supports crossfire, which is why I suggested an AMD card, then if you still had that motherboard later on, you could potentially add a second card. (might need a new case, but that is a minor expense)

If you take the price of the TX750Ti + your GTX 760 = ~£350

GTX780 for £339

Better off selling your card for whatever you can, and adding a small amount of money to the pot and getting a larger card. R290 would be slightly cheaper and roughly the same performance, of course you lose PhysX.
