Hello guys. I seem to have run into a bit of a problem. I just bought a MSI Geforce GTX 750 gaming 1gb. I installed it successfully and it worked perfectly fine for 1 hour and then bamm in the middle of nowhere it simply shutdown. The computer became completely unresponsive when I attempted to press the power up button. Completely nothing happens. No beeps, no sounds nothing.
I made a few tests and attempted to start up with an empty PCI-E slot, with my old GT 630. All were successful, but once I re-inserted the GTX 750....dead silence again.

Also my PSU is a xilence 550W. But it has me wondering that, the PSU has some "years" under its belt. One of the oldest parts I got(approx 5-7 years). So is possible that my PSU well...succumbed to old age? But it still can start up my computer without the GTX 750 fine.

In that 1 hour, I managed to install the correct drivers, temperature software(the temps were fine so I can rule out that I burnt my GPU), played a few games, but just to "meet and greet" to see what changed, everything went fine there as well. I didnt do any over-clocking or testing my GPU's limits.

Can anybody shed light to my situation? Am I really that unlucky to have bought a defective graphic card? :(

If your fans crank to 100% and make a lot of noise and then you receive a black screen or screen flickering, then your GPU is failing. Why is it failing? It could be a few different things. The worst of all being that you PSU failed. This GTX 750 only requires a 300w, and your PSU is old, that could be the problem, but there are other things you can try first.

I recommend opening your case, and re-seating your RAM and GPU back into their slots. Take the end of a pencil and use the eraser to gently wipe the gold chips on the end of them. Make sure everything is clean and use compressed air, or simply blow your PCIE slots.

Sometimes something as simple as re-seating the cards and RAM can fix this issue.

If your old card works fine in the build, but the new one won't power up at all, it sounds like you need to RMA the card. It's really hard to determine if it could be the PSU if it works with your old card but not at all with the 750. As said above, the 750 only requires 300 watts, so I do think It's an issue with the card itself unfortunately. Before you RMA it, see if you can borrow a different PSU just so you can rule out an issue with your current PSU. Good luck! :)
