Poor FPS in Planetside 2

So, I downloaded Planetside 2 today and I've been getting horrible fps on the game. I understand it's a huge game and whatever but I shouldn't be getting 15fps.

I've got a pretty decent rig, as far as I know, quite a bit over minimum requirements.

Here's my rig;

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-7693
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4082MB RAM

Graphics: nVidia GTX 650Ti 2GB

All of my drivers are up to date.

I know Planetside isn't the most amazingly optimised game out there but I've read of people with worse specs than me getting on average 45fps in the game.

Any help?

The Phenom II blacks were really cool processors in their time and if they still made them, they'd still get budget recommendations over things like the 750k. I liked my old 965 black so much that I kept that rig around on my network.

That being said, Planetside can be a rough game on AMD CPUs and the GPU is on the light side. As a single-player game, you'd be fine, but that it's an MMO adds a lot of overheard. So it's kind of a good news bad news thing - it's bad news that you'll likely have to improve performance through lower settings, but good news in that your performance isn't indicative of something being broken. There's also the possibility of an overclock as that line was really easy to overclock if you have the cooling...

That sounds about right for your specs actually. 4gb of ram doesn't cut it anymore your processor is ancient and your graphics card was considered budget when it was new 2 years ago. Best place to start is new CPU motherboard and ram and then get a new GPU. You also might want to get a new PSU as you didn't post which one you have

There is your problem.

I was getting 15 FPS during fights on matter what settings i used with that processor, when i am alone or with few people around i'd get 40+ medium high settings paired with a 7850 and both were OCed.

I'd expect that to be pretty normal for your CPU. AMD CPU's have always choked in MMOs, and the Phenom II 965 is older now.

Your 650 Ti isn't remarkable, but not weak either. It shouldn't be an issue in Planetside 2, where the performance hit comes from the players rather than the geometry or effects. Planetside 2 is widely considered to be CPU bottlenecked on most rigs. If you check the Youtube benchmark videos for PlS2, they're very little but AMD owners saying they can't get over 20 fps and Intel owners saying they're maxing the game on budget rigs.

True, i am no CPU expert but a simple explanation is that AMD rely on multiple cores performing together and Intel offers much better single core performance and Planetside needs the latter.
