Hello! Need suggestiom on which mobo to get. Mainly gaming and I'm starting on trying to learn how to Oveclock. CPU will be a i7 4790k so a z97 mobo is what I'm looking for and I'll be cooling the CPU with custom water loop (xspc kit dual 240 D5 pump) I'll be getting the Motherboard in a Microcenter Boston Cambridge store. They offer a $40 off on any Mobo if you buy with a CPU.
Thank you very much! Sorry about my bad english.

Good choice, you will be very happy with it :D because I gave you that recommendation, would you mind selecting my answer? It's nice to get a little something out of spending a lot of time helping out, as the others just agreed with with I originally said. :p

Good luck with your build, you might not be able to get 5Ghz stable, that's a really big ask haha. But you might get lucky, and if you don't you'll still get close to there :)

dude you have a custom watercooling loop you need a absolute beast overclocking mobo. If you want cheap i would recommend the asus sabertooth mark 2. If you can spend a little more the Asus MAXIMUS hero VII is king.

It depends what the have in the store, but I'd suggest getting the most expensive Asus ROG Z97 board you can, such as the Maximus or the Hero. It'll help squeeze out the best possible OC and considering you're spending lots on a custom water cooling setup, I do think it will be worth it. Good luck! :D

Yeah my budget is 240-250 and I get $40 off on any mobo so asus sabertooth mark 2 goes $179-$40=$139 and Maximus VII Hero $229.99-$40=$189.99. So both of those mobo are good for o'clocking too?

They'll both be great, but the Maximus will be the best. Go for it I reckon! :)

Yes Was actually thinking about getting the Asus formula vii but not sure if its worth it. rather spend more on something else for my rig =)

sabertooth is great for high overclocks without completly breaking the bank on a mobo but you spent some money with that kit so a ROG board would be some much more deserving and could overclock a little bit better. It just has more features

if you want to spend more money on something else while getting a good overclock a sabertooth since like a 140$ would give you a good overclock while still maintaning performance

With my experience with overclocking (5 years) Asus has really always been ahead of their competitors with features, I am not here to force you to buy anything you don't want... But I highly recommend the Asus MAXIMUS hero VII for the CPU Cores multiplier possibilities and other features. Moral of the story? Don't do dragon without wards :)

That's pretty much exactly what I suggested haha. But well put. :)

Haha, whatever you say. ;P

We should stop spamming this guys thread. Anyway, If you'd like to save some money for other components the ROG Z97 Ranger will still overclock very well and is nice and cheap. The Hero is also a good option if you are willing to spend a little more. :)

Yeah your right.

So i think we can agree since your getting such a high end watercooling kit(D5 pumps are the best) a ROG board with all the features and the best overclocking abilities is best. I would recommend the Hero/Ranger/Gene all of them are top of the line.
