Overheating (HUGE PROBLEM)

Okay. So around 2 weeks ago, I got a new PSU + CPU. They were supposed to make my PC better, yet that's not the case. About 2 MONTHS ago, I got a GPU. I hadn't even had one before. I bought it slightly used from a good friend. The night I got the new CPU and PSU installed I decided to take my new rig for a spin. BF3, which lasted 2 hours until the PC reset it's self. First time it overheated, it showed a tan screen with black lines, then I had to manually reset it. 2nd time my monitor just 100% turned off, flashed on, said "No Signal" then back off it went. Help me, Tom's Hardware, you're my only hope!

45 degrees C isn't too bad... I'm not saying that your system didn't get hotter when playing BF3, but your CPU and GPU temps seem fine when playing Skyrim. Whats odd is your system temps (temp 1 and 3) which seem high. What kind of fan setup do you have? Are you blowing cool air into your case, and exhausting the hot? Tell us your case, what fans you have in it, and your overall air flow plan.

I have a fan blowing out heat, a built in GPU fan, a PSU fan (built in also) and the CPU fan. That's all.

I don't see anything terribly out of line with the temps. Why do you think you have a heat problem? The card is cool, the CPU is good. I'm not sure what temp#3 is, but it is the only one that is slightly warm. Probably one of the chipsets, and to be expected when the CPU was at 100% usage.

The shutdown may have been a faulty PSU. EVGA isn't one of the best, and anyone can get a bad PSU even with good brands. Try your old PSU and see how it works.

Well I guess when I took this all I had done was started up Skyrim, alt+tabbed out, took screenshot. So I hadn't been playing for long, should I try maybe an hour of gameplay and check temps again?

That is not over heating. My GPU idles at 45C and plays games at 80C, and will will last years with these temps. You would have to over 90C to force a shut down with temperatures. I think this may have been caused by your PSU. Are you attempting to OC anything?

I would suggest opening your pc and check if any cables are loose, after that run battlefield 3 again but this time with the case open. Check to see if all fans are spinning. Also while the case is open check to see if any odd wires come into contact with the motherboard or graphic card. Or if your willing disconnect every power cable and reconnecting them back.

As Yuna suggests, check your 24 pin and 4/8 pin MB cables to be sure they are all the way in. If the locking tab on the connector is not secured, it can sometimes work lose with heat and loose connection.

Then try gaming again. If it shuts down again, try your old PSU and see if it happens.

I can tell you right now some cords are barely rubbing the GPU. and I didn't build my PC, a friend did, so I'll have to skype him while checking cords so I don't mess anything up.

Make sure you ground your self by touching the silver part of your case before touching anything. Make sure the both of you communicate well and proceding with the troubleshoot one step at a time.

Everything is fine in the case, but my PC just shut off while I was simply browsing reddit. Any help now?

I would swap PSUs but I don't know what I am doing.

Swapping the PSU is pretty easy - just follow the cables from the PSU to all the components - there should be a few SATA power connectors hooked up to the optical drive and the hard drives, a 24 pin to the MoBo, and a plug to the GPU. Unhook them, unscrew the PSU, swap for the old PSU, hook up the connectors. Its easy.

Found out it was my CPU (as seen in the temps here: http://gyazo.com/a50de39cb5762e51ebe4d175d2f7e603)
I am looking into a new CPU Cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118128) and hopefully the problem is solved. I was playing Battlefield 3 on Medium for those temps.
