I want to boost some speed out of my PC by doing some upgrades. I am going to upgrade my GPU, or CPU or both. I have a GTX6501gb and a FX6100 OC'd to 3.8. I don't know what to upgrade to, I was looking at the R9 280x, but am lost at what to do in the CPU area, please help.

Do not listen to Spliceberry. DO NOT get an AMD chip. Waste of money, and they require heavy aftermarket cooling to OC them. In the long run, just pick up an Intel chip, put a slight OC on it, and even without the new cooling unit you WILL be fine. A GTX 780 and an i5 4670K would kick the butt of a PC with an FX8350 and a 280x...

He wants to keep his motherboard, and, while I agree intel is a better choice if starting from scratch, the fx8350 is no slouch in modern games. Its the most reasonable upgrade for his socket...

I suggested $180 CPU and a used R9 280x for $180, thats $360.
You suggested a $240 CPU and a $470 GPU, and a new $150 mobo, thats $760.

Which do you think will make him happier? 1080p gaming locked at 60fps with both systems...... I'd rather have the extra $400 for real life stuff bro.....
