I had problems with it not working at all, so I had to unplugh my wireless mouse, but now I can't get the game to use the controller like I remember it was set up for the Xbox. It only uses like 50% of the buttons, an everything is assigned funny (like "A" to acellerate, instead of the right trigger). How can I get it set up right?

Solution
Well here's the controls for it, so you can remap them the way they should be: http://www.gamefly.com/Rent-Need-for-Speed-Underground/108010/GameplayControls/#axzz38oyVhysx

In the config menu, it should be something like:

Turn left = JSAXIS
Accelerate = Button 1

You don't need to know what button is button 1. just edit the button for accelerate by clicking on the currently assigned one (probably with your mouse) and then it should ask you for the new input, that's when you press the right trigger.

It's a bit tedious, but it should work fine, PCs have had steering wheel adapters for a long time.

It's a 360 controller. I can manually re-assign the buttons, but I have no clue what they all are. Button 0, 1, 2, etc doesn't make a lick of sense and when I tried to assign the right bumper to accelerate, it kinda worked, but I also had to push the left joystick? While using the right one to direct the car? It's just a big mess.

Uhh, is this need for speed underground 1 or 2?

It's the first one.

[strike]Everything works to a point, but it reassigns the triggers to z axis (so acceleration and reverse are now assigned to the same thing), and "Steering right" and "Steering left" are locked to the same assigned button as well, and only accepts either x or y axis. This seems to be my problem. Everything else seems to be fine.[/strike]

Derp, I forgot what x and y axis meant. I've been out of school for too long, I guess. (its too hot for my brain to function apparently) Everything works, thank you!
