I am building a PC with a Amd fx-8320 and a sapphire Radeon r9 270x what power supply should I buy and what wattage

Thanks

he does not need 700w, infact, a high quality 400w psu would be just fine. use a calculator and add up all his components power draw, and you get around ~300-350 watts.

if it was only the cpu and gpu yes but its always best to have a little more room.
best is to always calculate tha max draw and throw in a little more so you can achive better eficiency as well.
and if he adds a watter cooler he will have no problem.
a 500 watts is perfect for this build.
amd 8350 125 watt. mother board 75 watt.r9 270x if i am not mistaken 190 watt put another 100 watt for hdd cdroms.
490 watt at peak so a 300 watt at peak will fail.
a 550 will be best.

those calculators WAY inflate the minimum wattage to avoid lawsuits from people using crappy psu's. if this calculator was accurate, my current psu would have exploded into a million burnning pieces by now. the mobo uses no power for itself, the 10w i gave it was for inefficiencies, and hdd's use no more than 10watts each when at max load, same for optical drives.

Recommended 452 W

So where is this 700W figure come from? I agree with Dan. It should draw around 325W, mostly less then that. Any good 450W+ will be fine. I'm running a 325W system on a gold 450W PSU. No problems so far. You don't need 600W, and you don't need 700W for sure. 450-550W is as large as I'd go. Unless you are planning on CF later.

Lots of speculation when all that's needed are the numbers. A 500w unit is recommended for a system with an R9 270X.

A quality 450w unit easily handles that system. The 500w figure is based on a generic unit with low 12v amps.

That EVGA listed above is a middling unit at best and certainly not to be confused with EVGA's excellent high end lineup made by Superflower.

No one is confusing a bronze rated power supply from HEC/Compucase with a gold one from Super Flower (at least they shouldn't be). My point is you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to have a little extra "insurance". As far as that particular EVGA unit, its fine for what it is:

In addition if you look at user reviews from any of the e-tailers that sell it they are pretty positive (and its been out long enough for negative reviews to come in if it were crap). Regardless, you can get a 550w to 650w bronze power supply by a reputable company for a good price if you shop carefully. For a gaming rig I wouldn't go with less even if you could get away with it. Over time variables like an interest in overclocking the CPU and GPU or hardware upgrades may make those closer to the wire choices less wise. That said, I have a secondary PC with a Phenom II X4 980 BE and an HD 7850 2GB with an Antec Basiq 430W, but they're at stock speed. If it were my main gaming rig I'd go with a better PS (and I have - Cooler Master V650 Gold).

The amount of people giving bad advice on these forums is appalling. You don't need anywhere near 700W. I appreciate anyone who puts their own time into helping others, but people should do their homework before giving other people advice on what to buy. Dan gave the quickest reply and best advice, so I selected his first answer as the solution. :)

Your not the OP, why would you do that?

You don't either. You have a 750W PSU in your PC that when it run stock only needs around the same 325W. And your board doesn't support SLI so you aren't adding another 760 any time soon. You took the same bad advice? Not meaning to start anything, but curious as to why it's bad for him but fine for you.

I'm upgrading to a GTX 880 later on, and plan to OC it. I would have been fine with 600W but the G2 750W is one of the best PSUs out right now and it's cheap so I went for it. I can see why you said that though, haha. :)

You are right though, my current build could probably fine run off 400W.
