Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X too fat for my case

Hello tom's Hardware community!

I have recently bought Bitfenix Prodigy m-ITX case and my Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X nearly fit into it. The problem is that the graphics card is too fat and nearly touches my side panel. I have also bought a windowed panel for the same case - and now if I put it on, the fans just stop working, because the window is blocking them. I have recently tried Gigabyte Windforce r9 280x rev 2.0 and it fits much better (because it is thinner). Maybe you could advice me a r9 280x card that is even thinner than Gigabyte's solution?

The another problem is heat. When I change the side panel with the ventilation to the windowed version the gpu just goes insane. At the moment I only have 2 stock fans 120 mm that came with the case. Will adding more fans save the day? Or I just need to refuse from the windowed version? Thanks in advance.

Another reason why I don`t like the case you have.
It`s a MiniITX case, and it`s (quite a lot) bigger than my MicroATX case.
I have in my build an R9 280X Matrix, which is a 3-slotter, and a very wide card.
However, I have a filtered air vent right next to the GPU, and 3 fans mounted there that blow air directly on the GPU.
Also, I did the measuring, and also an Sapphire R9 280X Toxic would fit in there.

If your only option with this case is to switch back to the old side-panel, then that`s what you got to do. And also add all the fans that you can, and come up with a good fan config for getting the hot air out of the case in the best way possible.
Mini ITX cases are certainly NOT designed for GPU beasts like the one you are trying to fit in there. At least not with the air cooler - your only quality solution is a closed loop water cooling for the GPU. I have seen cases several times bigger than this one that had cooling issues with this card, it blows so much hot air inside the case that you need at least 3 or 4 fans to get the heat out of it, and you also need to experiment a lot with intake/exhaust combinations to find out the right one. Either avoid the windowed version + add several more fans or get a closed loop water cooler. If I remember well, this case supports one?
