Hi guys, I have read that updating bios will improve performance.

But before I was going to update, my dad and brother told me that one of our past computers were, how do I say this, 'broken' after a bios updates.

So what do you people recommend? Should I update my bios?

I am using an ASUS k55vd laptop.

they must have flashed the wrong bios. if you flash the correct bios, it will be fine. however, a new bios wont improve performance, it just increases the compatibility of other parts (usually).

Unless you're having problems that a new bios will fix, then leave it as is.

Okay, this assures me a bit.

I really don't have that much experience in doing these stuff, if I do maybe I have 10-15% Can I ask what 'flashing the bios' has to do with updating it? Also, what is the difference between 'flashing the bios' and 'updating the bios' ?

So are you saying that you don't recommend it for me? Also, doesn't people say that having updated drivers are recommended?

flashing is the proper term for updating it, and you should just leave it alone unless you have problems right now.

Sir, what if I update it even if I don't have nay problems? Will my laptop be 'broken'?

And what do you mean by flashing the wrong bios? I found a video on how to update you bios, the only thing that's need to be done is to put the updated bios file on a usb, go to UEFI and read a file from a usb, after that I am prompt if I am sure to update. I don't think there is an option on which BIOS to update

I was going to update my bios cause of this problem I have. Whenever I play dota 2 I have a great fps whenever I'm not plugged in(about 30 fps), but when I am plugged in my dota 2's fps is about 12-20.

One of the solutions I found out was to update bios. Maybe updating my bios would make my experience better?

plug it in, then make sure you are in 'high performance' mode, not 'balanced' mode. do this by clicking on the little battery on the task bar.

I have already done that, while plugged in or not plugged in, I set it as high performance.

No, my charger broke about a month or so ago. This is a new charger from CD-R king, their voltage and all that stuff are pretty much the same, their differences are only a few away.

that could be the problem, that your cord cant deliver enough power.

I remember when we compared both chargers, the power that was delivered was pretty much the same. for example the new charger delivers 9 and the old one delivered 9.5

But back to the question...... Would it be wrong to update my BIOS even if there are no issues? Also, did you watch the video from youtube showing how to update BIOS? If I do the things that happened on the video, will my laptop be safe?

you can try to fix the problem by updating your bios, but it probly wont change anything. the easiest way to update the bios is to download the latest one from the laptop manufacturer.

youve downloaded it, now you should be able to just install it. go into your downloads, or wherever it went, and run it.

Whatever you do don't use a in Windows software bios updating..... that is asking for you to brick your mobo.... do it in the BIOS correctly and make sure you have the right/correct BIOS file....you can end up erasing/corrupting the old BIOS even with wrong file...but obviously won't write that one....I been there haha....

ASUS has some of the most hellish BIOS updating though ever haha, Even some of correct files still won't work/read write haha
