Greetings,

I have a custom pc with the following specifications:
Windows 7 ultimate SP1 - 64 bit,
Intel DG41WV mother board,
Intel e8400 processor,
Gigabyte hd7790 2gb graphics card,
Kingston DDR 3 - 1333mhz 4gb x 2 ram,
Western Digital 1 TB HDD 3.5" SATA 2,
Cooler Master 600w PSU.

The problem is that my pc was working perfectly fine until 2 days ago, it suddenly started giving a lot of BSOD errors and restarted to the point that windows 7 had to be reinstalled. Now, I identified two errors from the BSOD screen, one being : memory_management and the other being : irql_not_less_or_equal. Another anomaly I discovered during this mess was that despite having my graphics card plugged in, my monitor display was not working, rather on plugging the VGA cable into the motherboard adapter did the display actually turn on. My questions are as follows:

1. What could the problem be? I tried running windows memory diagnostic and it's showing hardware errors detected.
2. Is there a problem with the GPU if the motherboard VGA is working and showing display on the monitor despite the fact that a graphics card is plugged in?
3. Is there a problem with my configuration in general that has caused this issue? If so, what dhow should be the most fist effective upgrade in all categories that I should look for?

I'll be grateful for any help provided, am really in a fix here!

Solution
Your system configuration is perfectly fine. Is there another system you can move the HD 7790 to, and check if it is faulty? My intuition tells me its your aging motherboard.

Thank you very much for responding. I discovered that I may have had a faulty ram, being that when I removed one of the rams (after checking both), the BSOD errors stopped immediately and the system ran flawlessly for 2 hours straight. However, you could be right, since even then the display was coming only from the motherboard VGA despite having a graphics card in. Will update status about the motherboard and card both by this Friday. :)
