I have recently purchased a 4GB RAM module online. It's a Kingston HyperX Fury Red 1.5V, 1866MHz, DDR3 module. My problem is, when I insert it into my computer, Windows 8 won't load. It will (appear to) pass POST, before restarting on the Windows 8 loading screen. On the second restart, it will say "Starting automatic repair", before restarting again.

I have tried all of the regular troubleshooting steps, including resetting the CMOS battery, trying the RAM in different ports, manually setting the RAM speed in the BIOS, and removing other hardware (booting with the bare essentials). The only thing I haven't tried is updating the BIOS - the only reason for this is that I have already updated it previously.

With my old RAM, which is a cheap 2GB 1333 stick, the computer will still boot up.

Relevant specs are:
ECS H55H-I mobo (I know my mobo doesn't support this speed, but from my knowledge the RAM should just be underclocked)
i3-530
GTX 760

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kingston is moving their DRAM to higher density ICs (memory chips) which aren't compatible with the older mobos

Ok, so there will be no way to make this RAM compatible with my mobo? I suppose that it won't work with any other LGA 1156 motherboards either.

Might PM KingstonHQ here on the forums and ask, they should be able to tell you what all specifically the stick will work with ....

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. As Tradesman said, our current 4GB modules are high density. 2Gbit DRAM is not readily available any longer so we have moved to making our 4GB modules with 4Gbit DRAM which makes it Single Rank/High Density. Our memory is currently compatible with Intel 6-series and later chipsets with Sandybridge and later processors. Any easier way of thinking of this is if the motherboard and processor support 8GB modules than a high density 4GB module should work, may possible require a BIOS update. This is because 8GB modules are made with 4Gbit DRAM so the systems compatible with 8GB modules are compatible with 4Gbit DRAM. As such our HyperX Fury memory and any of our currently manufactured memory would not be compatible with your motherboard or processor. You may be able to find memory that was recently discontinued still out in the market. For 4GB parts, the compatible part numbers would be KVR1333D3N9/4G, KVR1333D3N9H/4G and KVR1333D3N9K2/8G. Online resellers like www.memoryten.com tend to hold on to the discontinued parts, so you may be able to find what you need there. We are here to help and can always advise on compatibility prior to the purchase of our memory. You can check our memory search for your system to see what is compatible (here: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/options/), if the system is not listed than is most likely not supported and can be found in our discontinued models search (here: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/discontinuedsy...). The discontinued model search will advised on parts that have been discontinued but would be compatible with that system. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
