hi all,

My machine was running win 7. For some reason I had to install XP. So inputted the XP CD on the machine and started to installation. While installing, the process formated the C:\ drive and then copied the XP files into C:\ drive. then restarted. After restarting I saw a message saying: *Error loading operating system*.
How to solve this issue to be able to install XP please?

For multi booting windows OS's, you need to install from oldest to newest, so XP first then win7. If you install XP after win 7, you will need to repair your windows 7 installation and use bcedit to fix the boot menu.

If you formatted your drive and win7 is gone then you need to use a disk formatter like found in ubcd, or gparted on a live linux and format to NTFS and install a new mbr. Then install XP and then win7. Like Hawkeye says, oldest to newest for windows and Linux last if desired.

If you still have win7 then your best option is to install XP inside of Win7 in a virtual machine like VMware for example.
