I just got this computer from my uncle, it's a Dell GX 620. When I first got it, it didn't have a keyboard so upon start up it gave me the black screen with the underscore. I assumed it was because it was missing the keyboard. I bought a wireless one and when I plugged ot in and restarted it, it gave me a loading screen where it said bios and pentium 4 and all that jazz. The bar loaded up to 3/4ths of the way and gave me the options of hitting F2 for setup or F10 for the boot menu. When I hit those keya nothing happened. I restarted it and then I got the black screen once more. I tried buying a wired keyboard but nothing gets it past the black screen anymore. Any help you could give me would be great! Thanks in advance!

You can try removing the memory modules one at a time to see if that changes anything or gets you past the blank screen. Sometimes a bad module will cause similar problems. Just make sure when doing so, with the power off of course, that whichever memory module you leave in is in the #1 or A slot according to the tiny printing on the motherboard somewhere near the memory that tells you which slots are for what.

If you are unsure about how to go about this let me know and I'll try to find some specific instructions for you. Another thing you can try is removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then reinstalling it and powering up. This should reset this BIOS in case there was a setting issue that was causing the problem. These may not be even remotely related to what IS causing your issue, but it's a starting point at least. If none of that works you can try putting it all back how it was in the beginning and disconnecting the hard drive inside either by removing the data cable or the power cable from the hard drive and then power up and see if you can at least get the POST screen and access the BIOS.

In my case it occured after a bootsector change -- try running automatic repair from a recovery media (I guess there is some form of this option in Win7RE too). CHKDSK is your closest friend in this case.
